Good times! Welcome to the joint. I got at least as much riding done as you. Ok, less. But welcome to a great resource. We will try to cause your addiction. Enjoy!

Sorry all
I must have copied a load of other text and pasted it in.
Trying to introduce myself to the new members. Try again.

Hi

Having had sports bikes in my younger days such as a Ducati916bp I had a bit of a break from bikes. This was due to having kids (4 in total now). I’ve recently stumbled across what can only be described as an addiction to the 1970s classics. I can’t stop looking online and before you know it’ll it I bought an Yamaha RT1 360. I’m delighted to say it’s now done. I’m just waiting for the registration from the DVLA in the uk so I can order a number/reg plate. I’m itching to get out and ride it occasionally when I get the chance. I’ll see if I can upload a few pictures. Did I say addiction ....I’ve now bought and old banger.. Honda SL 350 K2 which will be a long term project. In the few months of being on here people were kind to help as I’m very much a novice and I’m looking forward to carrying on making these great bikes road worthy again.

Cheers

Back in the saddle again after 40 years. Got my DT1B in 69 and then put the high compression head on it without doing anything else. That put a hole in my piston. Manage to split the cases and replace the bearings. I worked for Foreign Auto Supply and the bearing number was the same as a VW Bus axle bearing. Didn't know about "tolerances". But I got my bearing for cheap. While the engine was out a racing buddy told me about a frame kit to lower the engine. Next was the MX barrel and piston setup. Had the barrel ported by Bob Schaffer (spelling?) and started racing TT at Dehesa racetrack (Sycuan casino now). Even raced at Perris once. Got a 72 DT2MX, rode at Miramar Air Base area and started MX racing at South Bay Speedway until "wedding bells" hit.

Retired now and picked up a 79 DT250F and have been exploring the back country of San Diego along the border. Lots of dirt roads and in between trails used by Border Patrol on their quads. Trying to get a bike for the wife now. Picked up a CT3 with CT1 engine project with no carb. Felt compression with kick starter when I picked it up, but now it won't engage. I will take it apart this morning and check. This will be a longer project so I'm on the lookout for a plated 175 that is road ready .

Just curious about repainting the project. Does anybody repaint their bikes in a "non-factory" color. I painted bicycles for 10+ years and like playing with colors. Mutant bike, Mutant color.

I'm Dan from Oregon. Grew up in Michigan. My first bike was a TX500. At the time I had some buddies that were into dirt biking and I looked at a Bultaco but I couldn't afford more than one vehicle and needed something that would be fun to ride and get me to school and work. If I had found an enduro back then maybe I would have gotten into trail riding a long time ago. As it played out, since then I've had a XS750, XS Eleven, and now a Honda ST1100. Yes, all road bikes. A year ago a buddy talked me into trying trail riding. So I bought this 1973 RT360 as a basket case. Every possible part had been disassembled except the engine, event he turn signal switch assembly was completely torn apart. Now that I have it all together it seems complete except for the exhaust pipe springs. I kicks over and as soon as I get it running I'll post a video. My buddy told me this wouldn't do so I bought a ready to ride '97 kdx 250. I'm finding out that I'm not much good at that kind of trail riding so I'm going to try some enduro riding, that is pack a tent and ride this to the hills and do some 2 track and logging road riding and spend the night in the woods and ride home. And this little 360 might be more fun than my big road bike as a daily commuter and around town bike. So that's me, as far as bikes go that is.

I lived in NW Colorado for a few years. That there would have been a good place to get into enduro riding.

Welcome to the forum! You have a nice example. A solid start for whatever direction you want to head in. My rt3 is next up on the restoration block. Quite a few here and much knowledge. We like pics and video when it helps(antytime is good too). Check out the tech library for manuals too!

Greetings from SC,

Just picked up a 1973 DT250 and a 1974 DT125 after a long trip from SC to IL. Both are runners and are going to be project bikes for my Dad and I. Him and I are into the vintage bike scene, which has been great to us. These two put us at 17 in the stable (about 1/2 of them run at the moment). Working on them and getting them going is just as much fun as riding them, most days. Looking forward to getting at least one of the two going in time for Barber this year.

Thanks for the add,
Matt

Thanks for allowing me in the group. I began riding in '66 with a MonkeyWard Riverside 50. Started my career in the aviation field as a jet engine technican at Cooper Industries after graduation. Moved to AZ in '77 and became a Yamaha dealer then sold it
in 1983 so I could move back to Dallas area to be closer to family. Addicted to MX for 12 years and raced CA, AZ, TX and many parts of Mexico. Served as service manager to several multi line dealerships the following 22 years then went back into aviation at Austin Bergstrom for ExpressJet for couple of years. Opened my dealership Austin CIty Powersports in 2009 and will continue to work until my retirement. I buy and restore a wide range of vintage bikes for my own enjoyment. I am in the process of frame up resto on a 71 CT1C along with design and building a street tracker xs650. Will post some photos during progress. Finished a 1980 DT125G last year just in time to ride it in the Austin ATX Alleycat Scramble.

Hey I am Joel, I'm a machinist and fabricator, car head, scooter nut and recently a 2 stroke motorcycle guy.

I don't actually own a enduro, but I have a RS100 which uses the same powerplant as a lot of the bikes on here. I have been slowly modifying it to make it a bit more "fun". Plus I get bored and have to always be tinkering with something. The last 2 "dumb" things I built were a Twin cylinder scooter engine and recently built a 30hp capable 94cc scooter engine based on a honda dio powerplant. this is my latest obsession, although I have owned the bikes for 3 years or so now.

I have in the stables now, 2x RS100, DT175, MX100, 3x Honda Dio Scooters, 2 different generation Piaggio Typhoons, Vintage Allstate scooter(Vespa), 75 Toyota Corolla, CR60 and some other stuff.

This place seems like a weath of useful information!

Cheers!

New member from Michigan here. We are entering that time of year where I transition from riding to wrenching due to the weather. I have a collection of ten enduros ranging from the JT60 to the DT400, mostly 1975s except for a 71 JT60, 70 CT175 and a 74 DT360. Seven of them are complete and rideable. One of them is close to rideable. One of them is this winters project. And one is the first of my efforts to obtain a good parts bike for each rideable bike. I don't restore like new to factory specs. I refurbish to my liking and ride with a smile. Looking forward to searching the archives for answers and advice, and just maybe I can share when appropriate. Here is a group photo of a few them.
