Hello All,

I just recently found a barn find of a 1974 DT125, it is a little dirty but complete and solid. I just rebuilt the carb and now it is time to start searching for tires. I do not think it will take much to get it back on the road and trail. I hobby in resurrecting older snowmobiles, outboards and other items that burn gas. It has been a few years since I have messed with anything else two wheeled. I joined this sight to seek professional advice as I get this old DT back going again.

Welcome! To the site!

We should have a manual in the tech library for that one.
IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

Great find. It looks like you have a 1975 DT125B. The vin sticker says 1974 because it was made the year prior in Japan. You can get the vin number and check the vin listing in the tech library.

Hi Everyone

My name is Jim and I have just bought a 1969 AT1 from a UK importer. I am frustrated because we are currently experiencing freak weather conditions, snow and a cold minus 10 degrees C, which is preventing its delivery. I have included a photo, the bike which I am told is from a collector in Pennsylvania has a low mileage of 5K miles but will need re-commissioning because it has been in storage sometime.

My motorcycling began in 1964 with an ‘Ambassador 3 Star Special’ with a 197cc villiers 2 stroke engine, so I have always had a fondness for two strokes. In more recent times I have taken up trail riding, in the UK we call this green laning , on a Yamaha Serow XT225. When the Serow finally expired I bought an ex UK army Harley Davidson MT350 this proved to be way too heavy for me off-road so my current trail bike is now a 1981 Honda XL185.

I did try to get back into 2 strokes, last year I bought a 1984 MZ, ETZ 250 to use on the road. This bike was built before the Berlin wall came down, in the government owned factory, and was years behind 1980's Japanese bikes in refinement. MZ were sold in UK as basic commuter bikes at around half the price of Hondas and Yamahas. Try as I might I could not get the thing to run smoothly below 50 mph so it had to go. The sale has funded the AT1 purchase and I am expecting much better results from my little Yamaha.

I have found your site very helpful and have already downloaded the workshop manual for my bike. I am hoping there are no major parts needed because the AT1 was never sold over here and carriage charges from USA are often more than the price of the part.

I think I am most likely going to use the AT1 purely on the road in my local area. I live on the edge of the ‘Peak District’ a National Park with winding hilly roads with mostly 50mph speed limits. However if I did decide to use the bike off-road there are a couple of question I would like to ask the members.

Is it possible to fit a 21 inch front wheel to increase ground clearance and increase tyre choice? If so is there a wheel from another later Yamaha model that will slot straight in?

I will keep you updated on my progress and hope you can answer my questions.

Regards Jim

Hello!
I'm Patrick, a new addition and proud owner of a 1973 Yamaha CT3 175 Enduro. A workmate gifted me the bike as he didn't want the project and didn't have room in his garage. No complaints. The bike is tidy but in need of some refurbishing. I will let you know the woes and joys as I tear into it. Wish me luck!

DaveR,

Was that San Diego Yamaha, owned by Gil Illescas and Mark (Bob?) Anderson? I did the same thing there, getting the same money starting in 1969, and lasting until until the end of 1970--I graduated early and enlisted in 1971. I raced a DT-1MX for them, and set up the 1970 DT-1 that Armond Caprio and John Kenyon rode to 1st in the 1970 Baja 500. I actually swapped the 19" front off my bike for the 21" on their bike, as they preferred the 19" for the race. If not, ignore the preceding garbage...
I thought that jersey looked familiar--I have a photo of me wearing one, taken in 1972 in NoCal at a Yuba-Sutter MC motocross while stationed at Beale AFB . See below if interested.
