No "fitting screw" as I run the 73 RT3 oil tank on this bike...

Not certain but were thinking there is some sort of screen material over the bottom outlet inside the tank. Will pull the glass window out and check it out and remove if indeed there is one in there. Based on mine- appears is does not take much to close off that opening should any dirt or grit get into that tank and with all the riding in dirt and sand this bike sees.

Here is a sample of the filter that has been battled tested by some folks- Large capacity with a stainless steel mesh inside so would take a lot of debri to cause any issue. I like it!

Filters are not expensive so will simply pop a new one on each riding season.

Uh Oh.... Looks like GFrench has another bad case of OCD running wild!

Yep-
Obsessive-compulsive disorder: A psychiatric disorder characterized by obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions, such as cleaning, checking, counting, or hoarding. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), one of the anxiety disorders, is a potentially disabling condition that can persist throughout a person's life.

So- my initial plan here besides a Complete Engine Rebuild was to give this bike a good through cleaning- inspection of all parts- lubrication etc. to get it ready for another 4,000 miles of big time riding.... Now that things are coming off the bike I am seeing a complete Rider Restoration coming! :)

Will for the first time be taking the frame, Swing Arm, Skid Plate, Brake Pedal- kick Stand in for Blasting and powder coating- Why not!

And then all parts will be a fully cleaned up back to new condition and bike will be reassembled.

The bike deserves this as it has carried my big butt up and down some many trails and has never left me stranded!

Be watching the progress right here! Frame and parts dropped of at Powder Coater Saturday.

Greg...I would seriously consider having your rear fender powder coated silver too !

I have a set of powder coated fenders .....
and you can actually keep the inside of your fenders clean once their powder coated !

That powder coating is tough stuff and really seems to hold up!!!

I know you run a plastic fender in front

Just a thought ?

I like that idea for sure.... This will be my first time working with this powder coater but have seen some of his work and he does an excellent job and very reasonable in his pricing.

I will get thru the Black parts first and see where it goes from there.

Just curious....what's your anticipated powder coating budget for your black parts ?

It seems like prices can vary a lot for powder coating ?

Both bearing insides measured differently > ? Did one show signs of tooling (dremel) to allow it to slide over the crankshaft easier> ? I read this earlier and was not certain as there was not a picture posted, and the bike ran so many miles - it sounds unusual but perhaps not damaging. Is it possible this happened on it's own > ? I have also witnessed strange things done on bikes and cars.
