Hi M, Nice work.
I stumbled upon the images of your carbs and they match the carbs that I am also trying to rebuild. I believe mine are original to a 1974 DT250, the bike is rough, but I got it cheap.
I'm going in the direction of a stripped down "tracker" or an "ice-bike". I just want it to run decently and have some fun!
Did you ever find a proper carb rebuild kit? I sure would appreciate some help if you can..
Thanks, Jeff

Just backtracked a page when i saw the front wheel!!, thinking must be modern and leading axle so how's he going to get around hitting the tank. Now i see the plan!!, jeez you guys do some great work. Might just add that you'll miss the steering lock you'll be loosing but don't do what i did [rough bastard me], just whacked it around hard a few times & made a couple of perfect dents in the tank. Should be shot at dawn--for a week. & that come to think was my almost new silver grey RT2 tank i got new of the redundant parts list we got once or twice a year at work [caused a stampede it did]. Had PE forks on my RT2 360 with a PE Swing/arm etc etc plus RT2MX top end--i miss that bike, sniff sniff. Love your work, Cheers.

Have not been able to find a carb kit for the 74 model. I did find a genuine needle and seat on eBay that I brought, not fitted yet though. I plan on buying some gasket paper to make a new bowl gasket then ordering a Jet kit to suit the pod air filter. Good luck with your build, I will be keen to for your thread if you post about it.

Carb kits are hit and miss; some have what they say they have, and some do not. Buy genuine Mikuni/Yamaha parts, especially for the jets and other brass items. Might cost a little more, but you will get what you need...and no headaches.

Thanks for the advice, I would be happy if if I could find genuine parts. They are very hard to find right now though.

Some new parts turned up!
New old stock float needle and seat and a 12v conversion kit from Rexs speed Shop.
Haven't had the to fit them yet, been working on other bikes. My '12 husky 449 needed some maintenance love after a 3 day 450k tour in Tasmania.
Will be on the husky for another 2 day 330km next weekend.
Now that the husky is all sorted, should be able to get back into the DT next week.

Progress has been slow on the DT. To many other distractions......
Anyhow, rear hub is off at a shop getting blasted. Rim and spokes have been ordered. Picked up new brake shoes and a new rear sprocket, standard size, only 10 teeth smaller that what was on it.

Also spent a bit of time on the electrics. Rexs 12v kit has been fitted. Trying to mate up a '74 stator and loom with later model switch block and ignition switch. So far I have horn, indicators, and brake light working. Will need to wait until the wheels are back on so I can start it up and see if the headlight will work.
Hopefully have wheels and tyres sorted out by next weekend.
