I’m just about at the same point with my HT1 restoration. The bottom end did not require splitting the cases so I’ve been cleaning up with soft brass wire wheel on my hand drill. Im curious if you clear coated the raw aluminum cases as the seem mark up easily when touched. Also, what black paint did you use on the cylinder?

Firstly i must appologise for my very late response
So Joe,i painted the barrel with PJ1 satin case paint. I cooked it off on an oil filled portable radiator i have in my shed.
Repeated the process three times.
It's as tuff as old boots now.
The cases are soda blasted and coated with Duck oil.
I have got all the chrome work back and it's lovely. Will post a pic when i get home.
Bought a new motorcycle and really shouldnt have but then again, you can't line a shroud with the cash so fark it.
Clues. It's big red and nasty . Has a Europeans temper.Ruled the MX world for a short time and kicks back like a mule.
Can you guess?

Yes indeed Mark. :OnFire
It's a 400, the one with the normal shaped tank.
The PO made it look nice ,but there are signs of short cuts .
What started my suspicions were how much it kicked back and fired.the timing was advanced as hell.
The kick start was on the squint. The post was worn on the knuckle so i removed it to find fewer teeth than my nan on the kick start shaft.
Went to remove the side cover.Gear selector shaft .Teeth missing from that.Got the cover off to find the primary chains as slack as a wizards sleeve.
Will post plenty pics when i return home.
Dave

Thanks for the info. Did you soda blast the bottom end intact or did you do a complete engine tear down and just do the cases ?

I disassembled Joe.
Just fathomed out why it looks a really good joint.
I used silver Yamaha assembly paste on the crank case contact surfaces. I have had that tube of jointing compound for donkies years. It's not an English product as the script is all Japanese. I can't even remember where i bought it and it's hard to work with as it leaves stringy bits all over the place, untill you put it on with a small ink roller .That works a treat.
If you have the barrel blasted ,cover it ASAP or it will corrode before your eyes. It's all cast iron. Or it does in our climate Joe.
Regards Dave

Stupid security protocols.I can't access the owners manual for the HT1.
I want to find out the tire size and pat numbers for the front and rear spoke sets
I'm guessing the tyre sizes will be either 275 x 18 or 300 x18 front & 325 or 350x 18 rear.
I have seen a set of Shinkos with tubes for $135.
My misses has just told me a bag of goodies from Motodad has arrived.
Can someone help please?
Dave
