Hey team picked it up today.

Missing tank badges
Left side cover
Tail light
Gear lever
Seat.

There is a model number on frame but no build plate that I can see. Did Yamaha put build plates on in the 60s? :( bit sad cos I think it makes it hard to rego in aus. Will have to look into it.

Plenty of compression. Looks like a 12v electric and kick start ?

Has a high low?? gear change on the side cover

Model says L5. Is that 100cc?

Don't forget the Tech Library here with its free downloads! :likey

Link below suggests that it is Candy Yellow.

The engine capacity may well be cast somewhere on the cylinder/jug/barrel. Checking this would just be to confirm that the engine or cylinder hasn't been replaced at any time.

Gr8uncleal,

My VERY first motorcycle ride was on one of these that I'd just changed the points on and timed. Ran great, right until I downshifted at full throttle and rode right into a chain link fence, trashing the forks. Yup, addicted for LIFE! Have FUN with it!

Wow, you've got a bit of work [fun times] ahead to get it rideable but that makes it all the more enjoyable when you have to get 'right' involved rather than just pushing a button & riding off. Also, you'll need a 12 volt battery to get some life out of the spark department, even just to kick start it. Wouldn't need to be a big battery just for that [kick], or jump it from your car & try the starter.
Might be the angle of the pic but forks look slightly bent back--minor point at this stage, if they are,

Looks like it might be a 1969... Tech Library has a YL2 service manual which should be virtually identical to the YL5... Look in the "vintage non-enduro" service manual section.
