Hello to all...

Recently while sorting through old pics at my mom's I came across some great old family photos, ever since I've been on a mission to reassemble the group of great enduros. Tomorrow I hope to acquire the HT1 90 that I had when I was ten. Any leads on a '68 DT 1 250 or the 175 would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year !!!

Hello, my name is Paul and I just picked up a 11/74 DT 175 Enduro. The numbers state it as a 75 B. I guess that late in 74 its considered a 75B. I guess the next few weeks and months I will be here looking for as much info as I can get to rebuild it. It is blue and last tagged in 1990. Not sure if it has been setting that long or they never bothered after 1990. Any how, it is in perfect shape, no dents just a few scratches on frame, and paint fade. I plan on a full resto. Once I find the place to get the Balboa blue paint I will get started. Looking forward to the site and gaining as much knowledge as possible.

Thanks for now

Great bike. The build year is usually the year prior to the actual model year. Slow boats from Japan . . .

We should have a manual in the tech section. I just finished a few laps on my project 175 today! Great little riders.

Post up picks when you get a chance!

Oh yea - Welcome! To the site!

My name is Roland. Never used a forum before, so hope this is where to start. Started riding Yamaha at age 16 when I bought a new 1970 DT1. Rode Yamaha dirt bikes until 1995 when I was forced to quit for health reasons. Retired last summer after 44 years in motorcycle dealerships. The majority of it was as a mechanic. Looked forward to working on the bikes of the seventies where I got my start. Been collecting parts for ATs and CTs for several years. Mostly basket cases and salvage. Purchased an AT3 last year with title and that is my project. Won't be a complete restoration, but hope to have everything complete and working properly. Hope I can get some advice and maybe give some once I figure out how the site works. Also hope the pictures come through.

Howdy Roland! Welcome! To the website!

Lots of good info and resources here. Look under the tech library which is being added to regularly for specs, articles and manuals.

This forum is awesome. I'm Peter and I'm new here. Haven't found the right bike for me yet. I'm selling my HD VROD. Too much power and a pretty rough ride, now that I'm OLD. In fact, this forum is what led me to start my search for a new old DT. I've seen some sorta good deals locally, but want to learn more before I purchase.

Here's a question...

If you could choose only ONE vintage Yamaha enduro, what would it be (year and model)? Based on these criteria:

Reliability
Ease of getting parts at reasonable prices
Ride comfort for city potholes
Availability of restomod components for improved safety and reliability

About 40 years ago, I was 9 and my brother was 11 and we pooled our money to buy a DT100 with the orange, black, and white tank. Hard to believe we didn't kill each other over who got to ride and when. Never lost my wonder for those old DTs. Now that I'm older I want a bike that is good for rough city streets and occasional trail riding. I think the DT400 might be a bit too big, but I've heard so many good things about them. I'm thinking a 250 might suit my needs. Never rode one with the mono shock. My riding will be more city than trail or highway.

My choice would be a '71 or '72 or '73 250. Easier to start than a 360 or 400.
Excellent reliability.
Parts are available but good ones can be expensive.
City potholes and pavement seams will loosen your fillings, but that is part of the charm in riding these.
Keep it stock, it will hold its value.
The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Probably better if you want answers to start a new thread with your question.

I'm biased towards the 175's. Power to weight is great. Much lighter than the bigger bikes. Super fun to ride. Only drawback is they don't cruise at high speeds as well as a bigger bike. (60+ mph). All the old bikes have some parts that are hard to find. The 175's are much easier to find "critical" parts for like crank seals, pistons, rods... Later models had better suspension.

For what you said a 1979-81 175 monoshock would be a great choice.... but then I'm biased. :Buds
