Hey guys, brining this one back from the dead. Time to get it running again. I have new crank bearings and crank seals. Not sure what Im doing but Im going to give it a shot.
Ive been looking for a video on engine tear down and bearing replacement but not finding a lot. I found someone that does a DT175 but it doesnt have the starter.I have the motor pulled.
How do I go about removing the starter? Do I need to remove all the flat head screws on the side?
Trying to add photos but there seems to be a problem, all it does it just double the text I wrote.

Watch this from 5 minutes in.
I see he initialy forgot to pull the brushes back which probably would've been ok unless theres a worn step in the comutator. Regardless they need pulling back for assembly anyway.
Bit fiddly & you see him pull the curly spring back far enough with a scriber or something so the brushes will slide back & be trapped there--that's good.
Then you need to--maybe before that ya need to pull the advancer with long center bolt.
Then two long long screws hold the stator in place.
So once that's off, then you need the propper bolt with extended nose. Plenty on ebay or amazon.
Best to use the propper one. Do it up tight then give it a good jolt on the end. It'll be tight, they all are.
He does just the best videos.

Thanks guys. I got it all apart. Got the crank bearings out. The one side with the really bad bearing was hard to get out, the crank was rusted on the bearing, after pounding it out I wonder it I messed up my rod clearance. Now I need to find out what the rod clearance is supposed to be.

From what I found, the manual says .4-.5mm. .5mm is 0.0197 so 0.020.
I slid the connecting rod to one side and stuck a feeler gauge in and I can easily fit a 0.030/.762mm

Hey Mark are you sure this is the right kit for an D125 with starter? I ordered that kit back in 23. I just installed it and the seals dont look they are going to touch the crank. Theres a 1/8 inch gap on both seals.

I'm not sure if you're talking to me and/or which kit you are referencing?
The only kit with seals I can think of is the AllBalls crank bearings and seals? If it was the wrong kit the bearings would have been completely wrong too... seal ID and bearing ID are the same. And all 125/175 Yamaha Enduro/MX/IT/YZ engines from 1969-1979 (to 81 for at least the DT) had the same size crank bearings and seals.
(Not 100% sure on the YZ/IT engine redesign when they flipped to a right side chain and flywheel in 1980 but knowing how Yamaha "recycles" parts as much as they can, even those probably didn't change?)

No problem.
Many years ago I actually installed the seals in the wrong sides of the case. I thought the seals had different OD's and couldn't go in the wrong side... but found out only the ID is different! DOH!
