Amazon has  Autolite two day delivery watch out on the NGK as they make counterfeit ones best to buy from a motorcycle shop No joke

Thanks Mark,

Just messed with everything again. Put the tank back on got fuel back in the carb. Grounded the plug on the head and I had spark, which is weird because I didnt before. Put the choke on and it fired, I got 2 weak cold engine revs out of it and it died. Wouldnt start again. Pulled the plug and couldnt get a spark across the plug again. Super frustrating, but at least I think the timing and points gap is okay.

Put the meter on the plug it would beep for a second then go away. I switched over to ohms and the ohms would bounce all over for a couple seconds and then the meter would hold OL.

I dont know if the connector in the plug is really weak and when power is put to it the gap spreads. No clue, really weird and driving me crazy, already ruined the bottom of my shoe from kicking so much.

Ordered the autolite plug from amazon and it should be here tomorrow. Ill let you know tomorrow.

Also curious, I broke one of my lolipop turn signals on the rear. Bought some tiny leds to replace the rear turn signals, for some reason I dont think they put out enough load to make the flasher flash, would this be the case? Also if anyone has an extra lolipop rear signal with red lens they want to sell, I might need one.

Thanks

Edit, thanks for the heads up on the fake NGK, thats wild. Im pretty sure I have bought NGK off amazon for my truck. Good to know.

You could take any spark plug lawnmower etc and use it to test for spark grounded to your head of course don’t install it

Well this is gonna sound insane. I took a plug from my 330i bmw, NGK R iridium. I have a 175 head still here, threaded it in the depth looked fine. Went to the plug resting of the head, tested fine, only problem was having to hold it in the boot since it has a push on end no threads and wouldnt hold in the boot.

Figured f it, threaded it in the head and it fired immediately. Test rode it and it ran amazing. The bottom and mid range was better than its ever been. It pulled very good. There was enough tension of the boot that it held just pressed up against the end of the plug. Go figure, if youre ever in a pinch a NGK R 12120037607 will work.

The only issue I noticed is it pulled really hard to the exact redline mark (8k) and theres a little bog/ slight break up. It def feels like it wants to pull hard past it but get stuck right there. If I modulate the throttle it I can feel it wants to go but something is happening. You think it has anything to do with the points or am I running out of fuel? I have a 140 main and the air screw is almost all the way in.

So overall solution, it was the spark plug that was the problem, theres something up with it to where it would work for a little bit then stop, making this all a very confusion puzzle.

PS, clutch is still slipping, prob gonna need to get new friction plates.

Looks like that plug crosses over to an NGK "6" heat range.  Too hot.

I figured that.  I had to say something because someone might try to run that plug from what you said about it.

I'm not sure what your experience is but on the old two strokes you really need to carry at least one spare good plug.  They can foul and on a single you're pretty much stuck pushing it home without a spare.

I have 2 plugs coming, was thinking I might pull the bolt/plug in the head and run 2 plugs at once. Just dont want to lose compression. Maybe ill put it in the storage container above the carb.

Might have a left side crank seal leak. Idle is acting weird and it was holding high revs when I pulled the clutch coming to a stop.

Anyone know how much of a pain it is to take all the stuff off the side of the E model? I assume all the wires have to come off?

Ordered clutch friction plates too.

So bottom line likely was just a shorted out plug due to baked on oil as i said back in #123.
Please don't go buying a coil until simple things like plugs are ruled out. They're good coils those!!.
There used to be plug cleaning things you could buy which were something like a capped tube with many needles in which you screwed the spark plug & then shook shite out of it maybe with fluid [petrol?] in it. The shaking motion got the needles right to the base of the plug & supposedly cleaned it.
Then i guess you were to wash it out & blow it dry.
Anyone remember those things.
