I removed the key switch and tested for continuity at the brown wire from under the key to the plug and it checked out but that may not mean the switch is good.

The other functions of the key switch work because I can turn the bike off with the key. And it won’t turn on with the key in the OFF position

Replace it?

Switch legend in manual tells you what you need to know

With key OFF, the Black (B ) and Black/White (B/W) are connected.

With key ON, the Red (R) and Brown (Br) are connected.

(the dots connected by lines show you which wires connect.)

So with key on, you should have continuity between the Red and Brown switch wires.

Some switches are fairy easy to open and repair... if not, you'll need to replace.

Thanks again.

I took the switch off and it looks like wires soldered onto the switch, do the red and brown connect to each other somewhere inside the wiring cover? Not sure I would have the skill to fix the switch

Don’t have continuity from red to brown with the key ON

Are any of the aftermarket key switches any good?

When you turn the key to on, the contacts inside the switch connect red to brown.

I'm not sure how else to say it. Some come apart easy and contacts can be cleaned/fixed. Without seeing what you have, it's hard to say.

Installed fly handle bars and new kdi repro grips. Looks and feels so much better.

I think the key switch is still faulty, when I move the bars the neutral will go on and off. Or is it a bad ground?

Does the tail and brake light also go out when you turn the bars? Could be the ignition switch then

You could have a partially broken red or brown in the harness that makes and breaks connection when flexed.

Thread of the Year 2020. Find something else wrong on the bike so we have something to read while we are supposed to be working.
It's better to remain silent and be considered a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Yup, the tail and brake lights also go out when I turn the bars.
Gonna remove the wiring “shield” to look at the wires.

Hahaha I don’t know about thread of the year.
But I sure am glad to have all the awesome help here.
I have to find a fix for the headlight. I’ve seen some use a later dt175 headlight unit?
