Funny, I did the same thing looking for the cold fusion formula! Could not find it- now I can look for it on my Friday night walmart entertainment trip. :Excited

If it moves and shouldn't , use duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use liquid wrench.

Back to the garage tonight,,,,
I mounted the fuel tank, attached the petcock, and ran new gas line & filter down to the carb. I tried to leave adequate slack in the fuel line so that I can still swivel the carb while on the bike to change the main jet or adjust the needle.
I then mounted the seat and got that all settled. I have not yet painted the side number plates as the weather has not been as warm as I'd like. But, I threw on the right side cover to get a sense of the final look.
Here's a couple of shots for your viewing:

I think it's looking pretty good for a 30yr old bike! I bounced around on the suspension to check the slack on the new 520 chain, and it was just right. But, in doing so, I noticed a "clunk" in the initial stroke of the movement of the rear suspension. In listening and feeling around, I don't believe it's any of the suspension joints, but appears to be the first rebound movement of the shock. I didn't yank the shock off and have it rebuilt as part of this initial restoration, so I'll just have to ride it and see what develops. I was hoping to get some riding in, then have it rebuilt during the off-season, but that idea may be folly in retrospect,,,
I'm really looking forward to giving it the first kicks and getting the beast started, but first the number plates,,,

A slight setback,,,,
I laid down a very light coat of paint on the left side cover, then went into the garage to get the right side cover. Of course, even though I had set some rocks on the corners of the newspaper, a breeze came up and blew the newspaper onto the wet paint. Nuts!!

Looks like I'll have to let it dry, then give it a go with Goo Gone or very light sandpaper. The other side cover first coat went according to plan,,,,
No worries maan,,,,,,

Have the last coats of Krylon Maxx on the side plates ( gave up trying to find Fushion in yellow, just does not exist in my area,,,), so things are about wrapped up. I'm going to let them cure for a few days in the nice CA temps before I mount them on the bike.
While in Fresno earlier today I picked up 2 quarts of Yamalube 2R, so I'm going to mix up a small batch of fuel and give the Blue Bomber it's first kicks tomorrow in quite a few years. I bought 2 quarts so I'll have plenty for riding soon!!
I'll have my wife hold the IPad and video the process so that I can post it here. I'm hoping it's a 5 to 10 kick affair,,,,

In the words of Gene Wilder in "Young Frankenstein" describing his monster - "It's Alive, It's Alive"!
(I tried to attach the video from the IPad, but it just won't load).
The Blue Bomber lit off in a glory-filled cloud of blue smoke on about kick #10, but it did start! It has been 15 years since it last ran at Jawbone Cyn/Dove Springs,
It needs to be fine-tuned, that's for sure. I'm using GFrench's recipe that works well on his IT490 of 340main/40 pilot/ 3rd position clip/1&1/2 turns on the air screw for a baseline, so I'll adjust from there.
Hopefully I can get out for a shakedown cruise this weekend and work the bugs out.

Interesting thing on the Bomber - I am using the stock exhaust and silencer, and all three attachment springs are intact. But, the bottom of the pipe does not come flush with the exhaust manifold, thus I can see a bit of smoke (and most likely spooge) coming out of the area.
I could try removing the fuel tank and jerry-rigging something on the main bolt connection to "move" the pipe such that it comes flush with the exhaust manifold. The pipe needs to come more to the "center" of the bike in order to pull the pipe flush with the exhaust manifold around it's total circumference.
Any thoughts on this??
