Be careful with the hard chemicals and then laying paint over it as it will have a reaction and blister.
Make sure you ScotchBrite the surface just enough to rough it up a bit so the first "LIGHT" Coat can adhere.
I use just good ol Isopropyl Alcohol on a micro towel to do the final wipe down- makes the surface completely sterile and ready for paint to adhere.

I was most concerned about getting all of the brake fluid off of it.

No work on the bike yesterday - went to to the Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show,,,,,Found a really cool vest by Umpqua, but you probably don't want to hear about that.
But today, I got the decals on the tank and the number plate above the head light. Take a look,,,
I have the first side cover taped off and ready to start the painting process, but it was cool and rainy today (yes, rain in Central California), so that will have to wait for a few days.
We are gettin' close friends,,,,

Do you think those decals are the same quality as factory originals?

If it moves and shouldn't , use duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use liquid wrench.

I'm not sure AT6, the decals were pretty rough when I got the IT years ago. In looking at the thickness of these Wicked Tough decals, my hunch is they are better than original.
The adhesive on the back is unbelievable - once it touches the tank there is NO moving it,,,,
They look really cool!

Rats!
I have just been to two local Ace Hardware's and a Home Despot looking for the mystical Krylon Fusion paint, and struck out at all three.
Maybe a Lowe's, but the closest is in stinkin' Fresno,,,,

Project is coming along nice! Wonder if it would be possible for you to shoot some photos of the rear wheel parts- spacers bushings etc. I am finishing up my 81 IT465 and not convinced I have the correct parts for the rear wheel install. I was provided with a hand full of parts but the person had several projects and pieces with more Kawasaki stuff than Yamaha and I am not convinced I have the parts I need.
I was wondering if you might be able to bring back the original color of your tank with this process? Take a look at this video.

Thanks for posting the video AT6. As discussed, the backsides on the 2 bikes are different in arrangement,,,
