Got 3 good coats of paint on the exhaust system, so now it can hang in the garage for a few days next to the ultra- fast FJR1300 and they can "bond" as fellow Yama-Bombers.
Hopefully my parts will come tomorrow so the project can move forward.
Cheers, and enjoy your Sunday night!

Pony Express finally showed up today,,,,,
New headlight lens, new front muffler stay, exhaust manifold gasket, rubber attachment grommets and a clutch cover gasket. Looks like fun in the garage tomorrow night,,,,
In looking closely at the newly painted expansion chamber, I found a spot where the paint was a skoosh thin, so I'll need to spray a bit more tomorrow in the daylight.

Any opinions out there on the best way to remove cruddy old decals from a PLASTIC gas tank?
Clearly the hot air gun method on a metal tank works well, but what about plastic?
Thanks all,
Biknflyfisher

I use a Hair Dryer (NOT A HEAT GUN!!!) to heat up the decals and they will loosen up enough where you will be able to pull them off.
Then I use a little Acetone to remove the glue residue.
To clean that tank up- try some steel wool and Goo Gone and it should brighten it up a tad. Once they are stained with the fuel/oil mixture pretty tough to get that out but you could do some wet sanding to get the top surface off to see if that will bring the tank back.

If you going to put new decals on that tank... there is only one decal that will hold up on a Plastic Tank- Wicked Tough Decals
They have a metal backing and are perforated to allow the fuel fumes to breath and not bubble the decal- They are awesome and the only brand I use.

Yup, I ordered those very same decals this morning before I headed into the office.
Tonight's plan was was to put the new Maxima 10wt fork oil in the forks AND increase the oil level to 160MM, BUT the Motion Pro tool didn't come in at the dealership today - bummer. So, maybe just have a few glasses of wine and hang out with the sick wife,,,,,
I'm letting the newly painted expansion chamber and silencer cure a bit more before they get installed.
Last night installed the new headlight lens and dumped the old fork oil, which looked pretty "tired".

Good news, the Motion Pro fork oil level kit arrived today at Wilson's Motorsports. So, tonight I was able to refill the forks with Maxima 10wt oil, and I increased the oil level to 180mm (standard setting is 170mm). I figured that the factory springs might be a bit soft, and the increased oil level would keep things from bottoming low in the stroke.
The forks are done!
As I was still on a roll, I went ahead and got the forks mounted, torqued down the handle bars and the triple trees. I mounted the wheel as well, but didn't torque that as I cannot seem to find my 24mm socket. Looks like a trip to the hardware store is in the works for tomorrow.
The Blue Bomber is starting to resemble his old self again,,,
Enjoy your Saturday, and get out and ride!

I wish I would have known about these decals before I bought some cheap crappy ones! I need to go and buy these to replace the cheesy ones I just put on.

If it moves and shouldn't , use duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use liquid wrench.

I needed to replace the decals on my 1975 DT 250. The kit I purchased was from Speed and Sport, AKA "Wicked Tough". They have videos on line regarding installation. The main difference with the kit I installed is that the decals must be clear coated afterwards for the metal tanks. Great products, they also have a great selection NOS parts for Yamaha's.
