That's not what I wanted to hear haha.. hopefully, those crank seals hold up as I plan on installing mine today and I would hate for them to be bad. I will continue to look for the Yamaha crank seals and hopefully, have them on hand in case I ever need to do them again.

Enduronut has posted here about NOS seals... and many of us have used them. If they have been stored reasonably well they will be perfectly fine... as good as new. I've found the sets like you've found... shrink wrapped to cardboard... to always be in great condition.
Unless they are rock hard when you remove them from package you'll be fine.

Heh… I would say they are reasonably hard. If you grab it from the outside and squeeze nothing happens. They can flex where it mounts to shaft where the springs are tho

the OD is basically rubber coated steel and will not flex
I have made two errors with respect to seals and seal replacement that I will share with the hope of others avoiding
1. the sellers discouraging 50 year old parts as hardened garbage are typically the same ones selling single lip transmission seals. I have bought very old genuine yamaha from partzilla and eBay and as long as they have been in a stockroom and not in the desert sun they are as good as need.
2. the drywall screw trick works great, but I once ruined a main bearing by screwing in a bit too deep, not a good feeling
good luck!

That's good news, I am going to roll with these ones as they appear to be pretty good quality. And you are right the drywall screw worked like a charm!
