Hello friends, been a while! i am once again asking for your help. I’ve got a crusty old DT2 in my garage. When I picked it up, the previous owner said he couldn’t get it running about 8 years back, so he left it outside at his farm… the seat had a big ole hole in it, and the oil tank was missing the cap…. So when I went to bleed my autolube it poured water out for a good 3 minutes until I struck oil. I cleaned the carb, ultrasonic / carb cleaner / air compressor. Replaced the air filter, cleaned the gas tank and refurbed the petcock. anywho, I couldn’t get it started last night at all. Not even a fart. (I’ve got spark)  I took the spark plug off and it was covered in some light brown oily mixture. I took the exhaust pipe off today, kicked and kicked, and it came to life but only for a few seconds then dies. It starts good, but dies just as good! the exhaust port on the jug has the same light brown sludge coming out of it. I did replace the oil, no water that i noticed came out of the old oil. could it be old sludge coming up from the crank  from sitting? any guidance much appreciated as always. I wonder if the pic attachments work! pic is the sludge John imgur.com/a/3ypr1y0

It's a shame they get left out in the elements without a second thought. Bottom line is your going to have to dismantle it. But if you're ike me I guess you just want to get it running for more than a few seconds first. Have you checked the trans oil. Is it full of water. Chances are the oil tank has gravity fed the oil tank plus it's water into the crankcase. At least you have oil in the pump now but i'd premix it in the mean time until verified it's pumping. Could push it around with plug out, it'll fire a mess out through plug hole if full of watery oil but might run then. Be sure the choke jet in the bowl is clear. Main thing is are the crank seals in place. They probably are as are robust seals plus it fired up so is hope. Looking at the mess I guess the plug might need constant washing off to retry. If it fires up just don't bring revs up for a bit as throws all the gunk up on the plug. Choke is only good on a closed throttle. At a minimum is sounds like your exhaust will need a clean out or ideally a burn out. Here's mine after a long sleep.

So by dismantle, you mean split the cases to clear everything out?

Maybe i was getting a bit hasty on dismantling but looks bad. Depends how it sounds i guess like are the mains & bigend growling with rust. Check the trans oil & fire it up. Ya never know your luck till you try. Don't take too much notice of me. I try to dodge dismantling if i can. Hows it feel on the kickstart for roughness ie growling. That won't stop it running though.

I had the clutch cover off to see if my crank seal looked alright, and it did best I could tell. No sediment or rust in that area of the engine.

I've had 50/50 success with crud in the crankcase. Maybe try pulling the carb/exhaust/fuel tank. Pour about 8 oz 20:1 premix fuel into a sparkplug hole with the piston up enough to block the exhaust port. Slosh the bike around for a few minutes. Then lay the bike over on it's side to drain out as much jump as possible. Then with both plugs out, rags over the head and the ignition off, push the bike around in 2nd gear to clear most ot the rest. Reinstall carb/exhaust , new plugs and try starting with fresh premix. Listen for the growl of bad crank bearings. Good luck.

What I have done in the past is, bike in neutral, take the plug out and spin the rotor clockwise using a power drill - same effect as pushing around in gear, but quicker and less tiring! Wrap an old towel around the frame above the plug hole, to soak up the crap that will come out.
