Hi there,
From what I can gather, the bloke I brought it off, purchased the frame on its own from a bike importer in the UK, with no swing arm, and built the bike from that. Not sure if he already had the engine, but in my limited research since owning the bike, it looks to have the correct swing arm for an RT. I've noticed its not got the cap ends in between the frame and the arm as there is play, but I don't intend to push forward with the build until I am satisfied everything is the way it should be. As in safe.
There are some obvious anomalies with the bike. For instance, shocks are too long on front and rear. I know I will have to reduce the hight on rear as its touching the swing arm. Front...well I will see. Clearly not the correct forks but will make a decision on that once I have a reasonable rear end. I want the bike to retain its classic looks, but I'm not going for a showroom spec bike.

Also, are you going to keep it off road, or fit lights, indicators etc and get it registered for the road?

Hi there,
I intend to get it road legal for the UK, so will either have to make up a wiring loom or find one that will fit. I have found a wiring diagram on here for the DT1. For now I have some questions about the carb as it seems to be a carb for the RT but on a D1 engine.

I've noticed that a fundamental part of the carb is missing, the floats and brass lever are there, but the shut off valve is not. So I need to buy a refurb kit, but I guess the first question is will this carb be a successful candidate for this engine? Maybe this is a topic for a new thread, uless I can find evidence on here in another thread that this works....
You're probably getting the jist that I brought the bike as a none runner (with my heart

The number stamped on the top of the carb manifold, where it bolts to the engine, will id what it is from.
Ideally, source a carb that matches the engine.
Refurb kits generally aren't recommended. However, some genuine Mikuni parts are still available, either via Yamaha, or Motocarb or Allens (both in the UK).

Oh man, that bike is right up my alley! I have a few “off-road” conversions.

Cleaned the carb yesterday and i'll be honest I never noticed the numbers. So thanks for that.

Well, I wasn't expecting that!
386 = Yamaha model code for a V70!
I wonder if it's maybe off a Suzuki? Hopefully someone here knows of the equivalent Suzuki model/carb code list- there will be one somewhere, as carbs for my GT550 have a similar code stamped on them
Reference your engine number against the VIN code that I posted a link to and the search for a correct carb can start from there.

My carb seems to have a restriction in the mouth tapering it down. If it turns out this isn't a goer, as in, not a carb that's a tried and tested replacement, I'm just going to move with something that will work.

The little research I have done looks like maybe a spigot to flange adaptor with a modern carb may be a plausable solution?
