My compression reading was above 115 psi. I assume the is still good area to be around.

as far as I know, that is pretty decent.my 1975 DT400 had 125 psi when it was still in healthy shape, before the piston rattle developed.

your 1977 DT400 should be similar.

So quick question. Would this carb work? Like bolt on and fit the cable? Just looking, new carb would take guess work out of if its an issue too. And they are relativly cheap. Wish i ciuld find a 36mm. All they have is 34 and 38.

I have heard much worse rattle. with 115 PSI and the very little rattle I heard, I would enjoy it, ride it, and monitor the rattle and your compression reading. If It gets bad pull the top end and send in it to Enduronut you will get it back within 30 days (or less) and he stocks most pistons, clips, rings, etc.

I agree with bigdog, It would be nice to get a few other opinions.

Not sure how that carb would work....that said, the stock carbs hardly ever need replaced. I have seen a few with the metal eaten away but 90% of the time they can be brought back to life. Just a thought if you are trying to save some money.
