Ok, decided to put tires on today. Found out that I ordered a 18" front tire for a 21" wheel. Got a new one on the way. Went with SR241 Shinkos, 3.00x21" and 4.00x18", both stock style tires.
Got steering head on. For those that haven't, they way I did it. Its an easy job, but the thought of those ball bearings rolling away...
1. I obtained 22 - 3/16" (Top) and 19- 1/4" (bottom) ball bearings from ACE hardware for a few dollars.
2. clean up and put steering head ball bearing races in freezer , then pull one out at a time and install. Gently tap in with a socket slightly smaller in diameter or steering bearing race installer. Recommend using a micrometer so you know how deep the race is seated.
2. Put lower bearings in using grease to seat them and then tie strap the lower triple clamp to the frame and do the top. With the bike disassembled pretty easy to just flip the frame over.
3. Favorite part of the day was refinishing the center triple clamp bolt.

Does anyone know which side is up the clutch damper rubbers under this part?

test fitting rear wheel for kickstand clearance. when I did the metal work on frame, I thought I fixed this. looks like more work needed.
Note, in this pic, what appears a normal "up" kickstand position. If you look closely, is not full up.

This is full up. Next two pics a view from top and side. I have two choices. I can limit the travel of the kickstand up position
by adding a piece of metal on the nut side (inside frame) of the kickstand, that appears like a modified washer but extends under
the kickstand stop point OR bend the kickstand attachment point. Ideas?

...and the clean-up continues. powder coat next. (motor mount bolts, kickstand bolt and spring to be powder coated in "Super Chrome II", while kickstand, chain guards and motor mount bracket will be gloss black.
From last post, looks like I might leverage the attachment point and bend it to a working kickstand position.

The rubber dampers have a slightly rounded backside that goes against the slightly rounded wheel hub. They don't fit quite right if you put the squared off side into the wheel hub. Look closely I think you'll see it.

Thanks for confirming that. As soon as I flipped them over, as you described, it slipped right on.
Adding an image to illustrate this.

I sure hope they stay clean for a min or two...Trying to figure out what to do w/the engine. Its probably going to be a satin looking job with some black here and there.

Bought a black sprocket on ebay and modified the color a bit. Wanted a 47 tooth sprocket, but could only find it in black.,,baked it with "Alloy Silver" powder. Lost the sprocket bolts.

when they say, "nut and bolt resto..." now I know what they mean. Shock mount bolts, handle-bars, kickstand pictured. A few extras in there.
