I have not yet taken the Suzuki out much as it's not yet trusted as much as the Yamaha CT2, but I needed to get away and headed to California's Feather River drainage.

Camel Peak, once a fire lookout site.

You'd think it had been abandoned fifty plus years until you see the satellite dish on the wall, it must have been lived in during the mid to late 90s?

A nice quiet spot next to the creek with some fine trees.

Bike was great for 90 miles of riding, Pathfinder wouldn't start in the morning. :Ugh

You find the coolest places to ride! Areas you ride were taboo when I lived in nocal. Well, to tell the truth, racing bikes & cars kept trail type excursions limited anyway & I fell in love w/Baja where I did my "play riding" if you can call cruising speeds of 60 and up play riding! We'd do sea of cortez San Filipi to Pacific coast Roreretto just for a lobster fest & return next day, about 350 miles when "long rides" not pre planned! Left San Filipi @ 80 + temp about 9am, got snowed on crossing mt range @ Mikes Sky Rancho, down to Pacific coast where my nipples got so pounded by rain through vented jersey I was close to tears, just for that $3 lobster dinner! Good Times, Good Times! Way off track, sorry. Those "taboo" areas legal to ride now? Or are you sneaking in? You gave an "informal" invitation to join you a couple months ago for fire roads & trails and I've been following your " continuing adventures of"....& I would love to see green & dark dirt again! Thanx for the pics you provide as well! Time this year not on my side so far!

Lifer, more roads closed by Sierra Pacific Industries these days than even ten years ago. I think they have gated every single road they own. Thankfully still lots of USFS roads once you get far enough north.

Mdscott, dead battery. Was odd, moved it in the morning no problem then loaded up to leave and no luck, barely turned over then just clicking. Tried again an hour and change later, all clicking then just turned over and caught. Was a big relief. Never had a battery die at random like that, always a slow predictable thing in the past. New one solved the issue for now.

Yah, you'd almost think they'd open them to shunt some blame off them for letting their shit deteriorate as it has (I believe the real problem). Sorry, nuff said! What's required as far as Spark Arrester? My "screw in" $7 Briggs & Stratton 3/4" muffler/ arrester on my $25 used silencer probably wouldn't cut it I'm gonna guess. LOL. Done worse though, when racing I'd put a couple layers of fiberglass window screen in the silencer to pass the "poke test" which would quickly burn through. Now, I'm mature(??) and wouldn't as I appreciate nature, I wouldn't even tear up some off trail hill! I see your muffler is stock, They had an approved Yamaha/Kirzman arrester, (wow, I can't believe I remembered THAT, shows how much usless infromation stored in my noggen!) that system still ok? Would a supertrapp be ok? I got a bunch of old Discs & could knock out an oval to fit my silencer. Thinking ahead...

Most Rangers are pretty cool... some aren't. The USFS rules are very specific and you "technically" need to use a complete spark arrestor as designed and tested and stamped with the approval number. ANY mods... say opening up the outlet a little... makes the unit "illegal".

I've only seen one ranger in my life get overly "technical" and it was in a legal area they didn't want bikes. Most of the time the stamp and maybe a rod test is the most you'll see. The more it looks "factory", the less they seem to worry.

I believe the SuperTrapp does qualify... end cap would have to be stamped though.

Here's a link to the USFS info. www.fs.fed.us/t-d/programs/fire/spark_arrester_guides/

Oops. Just noticed this was the "Just pics" thread. My apologies for the above post.

Here's a pic of my Suzuki on the legal trails barely east of Las Vegas... this is the north end of Rainbow Gardens.
