Did you trying mating the brake backing plate from the 19" wheel to the 21" wheel? The part numbers are slightly different between the 175B and 175C front hubs and backing plates. I'm considering looking for a 21" 175C wheel for by 175B also, and am hoping I could use my backing plate from the 19" wheel.

This thread has been inspiring to me! I have the same bike all torn down and can't wait to get it rolling.

The 19" plate fits right into the 21" hub!

Time to at least slightly re activate this build!

After our last installment, this bike was put at "The Farm", our riding area where many of our riding adventures happen.

Last week, we drug it out and it's slowly moving forward.

Pulled the seat and I was going to simply drop the cover on it, but the pan finish was pretty nasty. After snapping off two of the bracket bolts, I had to go all in.

Finally got the broken bolts out and retapped the holes, cleaned off the scale and on this refresh, I went with a product called Permatex "Exrend". Turns the remaining rust into s paintable base.

Followed. Y some black Duplicolor Engine paint. I really like this paint as it goes on smooth, dries quickly, and is somewhat chemical resistant. It is NOT gas proof.

Several coats ant tomorrow we should see the install of an inexpensive, but acceptable Seat cover!

Some time ago I purchased a PitPosse seat cover off EBay for a GT80 project, and was pleased with the quality for the price. Took a week or so to get here, but for the refresh on the Mad Max DT175 it seemed sufficient.

My foam was surprisingly good, and you saw the initial pan refinish above. Today the cover got reinstalled.

It is best to do this on a hot day as you will swear a bit less. Fairly happy with the result. Amazing what such a simple fix does to the overall look.

Need to clean and paint hinges and reinstall.

I can’t believe this project has been dormant for so long. I’ve been collecting bits and pieces as I find them so the parts bin is overflowing. The past week we pulled off the pipe and got it repainted, added a new O ring to the stinger so it didn’t smoke out under the seat, and bolted on a set of restomodded thermaflows off the shelf. I think this one is gonna get some love after Hodaka Days as it is a real blast to ride, and will make a nice around town and play bike.

The refinished pipe:

The shocks:

Kind of an overview showing the new seat as well.:

This is obviously a “surface rust bucket” however, the motor is perfect, it rides well, and is truly at this point a cosmetic project. Looking for a nice weather couple of days in July and it will be a rider!

This one is titled and will get plates as well.

Mako, I have a DT175C that has a rebuilt engine (EnduroNut), carb, etc, . I need a tank as the one I have is pretty smashed in and not repairable but holds gas!..my real question, as I'm a 225lb 55 year old, is the Thermaflows, what did you do them? I need a little more "help" in that area, so I'm not bottoming out but not so stiff that my teeth rattle. Its just for fun running around town and off road at the farm, logging roads etc..(maybe this should be a separate thread)

Hodaka Days is over, and no big plans for the 4th! Time to do a bit more on the old girl.

The fork tubes were fairly rusty up top, but the area of the seals is decent. Going to clean them up and reseal for now. Franks quoted me almost $400 for a pair of their stock new tubes. EBay gets about $259 for the same. I’m gonna explore some other options, but for now these will do.

Needed to paint the triples, and the bearings up there were really dry so . . .

It’s near midnight and I need to stop unbolting things :) tomorrow will see great progress I expect!
