Couldn’t wait I dug into it today. From what I can see the clutch pack and plates are all installed correctly. I have pictures as well. When I grab the basket I can wiggle it back and forth a little bit. Is it usual for that to have some play? Other than that everything appears correct.

Still worried about what's behind the center hub in regards to the thing flat bearing & its thin washer which may or may-not be incorrectly assembled. Does the center hub revolve freely as it sits in these pics. Plates look good being new of course.

It spins  freely. Took it apart. On washer behind the 29 mm nut and another covering the thin bearing. Not seeing any issues.

2 of # 18 these are thick
The thin washer for # 17

I have a washer in each side of that thin bearing. Haven’t looked behind it for #19 yet. And then a washer for the farthest out nut.

Flat bearing in first pic needs a thin original washer to protect it from the small kick gear. In second pic you show a dark colored washer sitting on the kick gear. Is it the thin washer which belongs to the flat bearing. Other side of flat bearing is ok to run on the thick washer that's still in place there. It's a bit of a juggle to assemble without it dropping behind the spacer & getting pinched. But looks like you done it for without issues so--onward & upwards. Hope it all works in the end.

Yes the washer on the gear goes to the bearing. I'm struggling to find anything that is wrong with my set-up. Could bad springs cause all this fuss as they are on the bottom end of spec.

I have no facts or even a good argument to explain why...  I just have had a gut feeling the problem is and has been in the worm gear actuator on the other side of the engine.

I'm not that familiar with the clutch layout on that engine but you have a few experts helping that I'm sure will make sure you get the clutch assembled right...  hopefully that fixes it.
