Also when i have it adjusted too far out the clutch will not grab when trying to go but still wont disengage when cable is puleed.

Going to have to go in i'm afraid. Take pics if they'll load on here to show us how its laid out. Clutch is prety straight forward on DT3's but there could be tricks if the new plates stack up too thin or for that matter, too thick. You need a steel last in for the pressure plate to push on. Also there should be a double thickness steel first in at the back as the hub doesn't have a built up back to act as a plate.

Thanks for the help, I’ll dig in there soon and get some pictures hopefully I messed it up along the way. Today I’ll probably do some work on a 1980 dt175 I picked up last night because if one’s making you mad why not just go get another!! Hahaha I think I have a problem with enduros. I think that brings the tally to 6..

Just got the left side crank seal for my 81 175, need to get off the butt and get it done.  These are addicting bikes but I'll be happy with just one more to round off my collection, want a 360
