What is your descrption of Vintage ? was created by FMB
What do you call Vintage ?
Drum brakes ? N0 electric start ?
Twin Shocks? Right side up forks ?
We like the 20 year mark as used for clothing as our cut-off for Vintage.

Probably from 1960-1979 in my opinion.

So where does that leave a guy with a Non-Current unit from 1980 to 2000 ?
Those are the guys we would like to get out of the Garage.
A 20 year motorcycle, while still a decent ride, where does a guy ride it ?
Chances are his buddies all have more current rides ?
A Vintage Dual Sport event could provide the camaraderie of like-minded enthusiasts.

Members on here organize rides all the time. Most participants are on 1970's Yamaha Enduros. Nobody has ever been turned away as far as I know because they didn't... (or couldn't... electric start can be a ride-saver for some) ...ride the "right" bike that fits some "category" someone came up with.
Obviously from your posts you're trying to organize some kind of business that organizes rides. Good for you. I certainly can't speak for everyone here but I'm pretty sure most of us really aren't prejudiced against brands or age of bike... it's about the people, the adventure, the challenge, and the ride. (obviously there can and should be requirements like street legal with freeway legal displacement if some highway riding is involved between trails... that's just common sense.)
The best ride events in my opinion are INCLUSIVE... not exclusive.

Hey Mark,
We are a Motorcycle Club based in Salida, CO that is trying to do just that. Be all-inclusive.
'Salida' means 'Exit' in Spanish.
We never have many 'Vintage' motorcycle at our club rides. 20 years or older in our vernacular.
Check this blog on the Club and the 'Niche'.

It is interesting, the quality and technology of a 20-25 year old vehicle today is so much greater than comparing in the past. I own a 1997 KDX and use to own a 2000 F350, they never seem vintage to me. But in 1975 I bought a 1950 Willys Jeepster, and my Dad owned a 1948 Ford, they were both a big difference in technology and I would call then vintage.
I ride with all shapes and sizes.
Someday my wife's 2020 Hyundai Elantra will be vintage, now that's a big LOL

I normally will not take a bike in for repair work if the bike is production model year 1977.
1969 - 1976 are the bikes chosen for restoration and such. By the time you get to 1977 Mono Shock Bikes the value decreases, and it’s putting good money into bad investments. If someone is born in 1977 for example I might consider the project.
i will not take a 1968 DT1 because parts are simply not available.
