Triggers from source coil. I was spinning with my Makita drill on low speed.

I didnt think they had separate trigger coils. Your test will replicate cranking speed rpm perfectly.

AND...................it RUNS.
I finally got a chance to mess with this some more. I set the float level to where it overflows when slightly tilted. Installed a B8ES spark plug (manual calls for b9es) Kicked it a couple of times and then went WFO on the throttle while kicking. It started. I left it run to warm up a bit and then rode it around. Runs really well.
I replaced the float valve (VM28/163 2.5) and at the stock measurement, the float level was way low. May not have been an actual Mikuni part.
Hell, I can start this with no shoes on now (when warmed up)!
So I will attest to this ignition. Very easy install and plug and play. Just make sure everything else is in order.
