Splitting the cases and rebuilding the entire thing. If I am going to do it then I am going to do it right and all the way. This should be a very nice bike when done.

The restoration is nearing completion, I should have some pics up here soon.

Got the seat back, it turned out great with the repro cover.

I just acquired this exact bike.
I rebuilt the carburetor, and replaced the ignition coil (long story, figured out it needed to be a 6Volt coil).
I can't find the manual for this, but was wondering if you could answer a simple question:
Since this is a 2-stroke, do I need to mix gas and oil together before putting it in the tank? If so, what's the ratio?

I'm lost with this bike.

Edit: Nevermind, found the manual and learned about the auto lube pump. Can someone confirm I did the right thing ordering a 6volt as opposed to 12 volt coil pack? The first one I bought was 12, said it worked for a Dt259, but didn't (no spark).

Probably best to start your own thread with your questions... you have a magneto, battery charging/lighting system is 6 volts. Ignition is technically neither 6 or 12 volt. Not having spark could be as simple as points needing cleaning. Many reports of new coils sold that just don't work. More info needed. Again, best to start your own thread with as much detail as you can (like why you are replacing the coil?) Questions with pictures of what you are talking about generally get the best responses.

Nice bike! And all the extra parts too! First, go to kdirepros.com . Do a really good job refinishing the seat pan before installing the new cover. Use only original Mikuni parts for the carb rebuild and OE Yamaha seals on the forks. From the pics it looks like you have a great start. P.S. I love a good road trip.

Huh? It's just not back on the bike yet.

*Edit-Ahh, you are referring to the gun lol. I was getting it out of the safe to put on the night stand and I snapped pics of the seat to post since it was there on the work bench. But yea, keep your hands away from my fresh seat lol.

The new seat cover came in the box of parts when I bought the bike. It's a reproduction and I believe they are still made. I cleaned up the seat pan myself, it was in very good shape and then I ordered the seat pan edge trim and took it to my upholstery lady down the street. She does all of my motorcycle seats and she only charged me $20 to recover it.

Yea the extra parts were a big bonus and part of the reason why I jumped on it so quickly. All parts going back into the bike for rebuild are NOS Yamaha short of the spokes for the wheel rebuild which are from Buchanan's. I'll be repainting the fenders but the tanks will stay as is with the original patina as they are in too good of shape for me to mess with. I'll have my PDR guy clean up a few of the dings but that's it.
