Finished my 1974 Yamaha Dt 360a today was created by treeves

I have finally finished my Dt360, I think it looks as good as it did when I bought it in 1974. I do have the original exhaust but decided to put the expansion chamber I bought when it was a couple of years old. Does anyone know what expansion chamber it is? I did very little work on the motor but most of the bike parts have been replaced or rebuilt that move. I have ridden the bike about 3 miles and I have two problems, when I can get the motor to idle at about 2k I can hit the throttle and it may go to 3k and then go down to maybe 1500. The motor will rev to 6k with no problem and runs great, just a problem with idle. The other problem the tail light works but when I try the front or rear brake the tail light blinks but brake light does not come on.
I thank all of you for your help, I could not have finished my bike with your help.

First of all congratulations on that beautiful bike! Your troubles may be minor. Not knowing if you replaced the crank seals or not, make sure the intake bolts are tight, New gaskets on intake to head, clamps on boot are tight. Did you clean up the carb slide and the bore in the carb? The slide should move freely and the throttle "snap" back to the idle screw. With bike shut off twist the throttle and let go to see if it snaps back or is lazy. Fix that if lazy. It is binding somewhere. Should consistently idle at about 1400 rpms.

On the taillight...check that you have a good taillight bulb...double filament...and it is good and making good connection in the base. On my DT400 my brake light wouldn't come on and I thought I ruled out the bulb. Tore into the wiring from the switches all the way back to the tailight harness and couldn't find an issue. Then checked the voltage in the tailight base and all good. Turns out it was just the bulb after all after about 2 hours of headache. Check and rule out the simple things first! Post when you get the issues resolved!

I did not put crank seals in the motor, the only thing I did to motor was a decompression cable. The throttle does snap back, I am hoping not seals. I will check the other places.
I did put a new bulb in but I need to check that it is good. I thought the brake should work without motor running but wasn't sure until today.
Thanks

I've done that with bulbs too, they pass physical inspection but don't work. After that the most likely culprit is ground in my (limited) experience.

She looks great, congratulations on it!

very cool, no idea on the exhaust but I like it, sounds like it's lean on the idle circuit, should have stable idle speed once warmed up, you can do some basic test like turning in the idle air mixture screw trying different needle clip positions , process of elimination
got to start somewhere

I replaced hundreds if not thousands of 1157 bulbs working in a truck shop.

Trick I learned is even if filament looks good, flick the bulb with your finger while looking at the filaments. The filament can look perfect but the vibration from flicking the bulb with your finger will show it's actually broken.

It's still a habit I have... I can't remove or install a bulb without flicking it to test the filament... after a while you can feel the difference in vibration on a good bulb vs a bad one without even looking at the filament. Trick works on standard household light bulbs too.

I think its awesome you still have the bike and managed not to strip it down over the years. Looks great btw.
a few ideas if they help: crank seals, carb, float, idle air mix screw, dirt in carb, dirty jet, bent/worn reeds, jug/head gasket, loose plug, decomp valve, intake manifold leak,....
74 DT 360 ... resto in progress.
