DT3 Rear Lightbracket confusion was created by Jools

I'm slowly progressing with the refurb of my DT3. Its taken a lower priority of late but now parts are turning up its time to turn my head back on.

There has always been something niggling me about the rear light bracket. I suspect I have the incorrect one for the model, either that or the rear guard is wrong but as this fits the frame where it should I don't think this is the case.

If I align the bracket where the two lower mounting holes are, the single front mount is under the the rear frame loop and will crush the sub wiring loom where it exits the little tunnel. There is another hole in the guard with a grommet which i have always wondered what the purpose was.
I ordered one of the new "replacement" light brackets advertised online and its the same, plus with this bracket the reflectors foul the main body of the bracket so I made some stand offs.

It wasn't until I searched a few images of the DT3 online that I noticed that the bracket looks like the single front mount should attach where I noticed the unused hole lies.
Is it the bracket thats wrong or the guard, or something else........
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully there is an attached image to show the problem.

That looks to me like the light bracket off the 1974 on models - eg DT360A.

The one for the 1972 and 1973 bikes is quite a bit shorter and a couple of photos of mine are attached - the first photo is my RT2 and the second my DT360A. Apologies for the dust and rust! :EEEK :ROFLOL

Thanks for those photos. I wished I had queried this earlier as it would have saved me the cost of the new bracket that I waited a month for.

The Search is on..........

The chrome bracket in your first post looks like one for an RD series bike, like RD350.

It came with the box of bits with the bike.
What you say now makes sense as the rear guard is not chrome so it would look odd. I’m annoyed that the supplier of the new guard, still advertising online, is describing its fitment for DT/RT 1, 2 & 3 models.
I’ve contacted them to see what they will do, hopefully I can return it.

The next thing is the rubber the bracket will sit on. You need the correct ones for your bike. There were basically two styles for the DTs and RTs. For your bike and the light you purchased (correct light) you need the thin rubber pad for the rear (2 holes) it is about 1/4 " thick. Then you need the extra thick grommet for the front (single hole). Some front ones take two different grommets combined to get the front up and rear down. With the correct rubbers your taillight should point back roughly parallel to the street. Using the wrong rubbers will have the light pointing more up than straight back.
