Always great to hear them run for the first time again!  Congrats!

If you do seals, lay the bike on it's side with seal out to drain excess crankcase oil that may have collected.

I recommend using the 77-79 IT 175 ignition side seal, better part.

Thanks for the tip and the encouragement. I already order the seal specified for the CT1 buy my I’ll definitely pickup the seal for the IT as well.

Bad seals won't stop it running--but seals out of the case will.

Just a thought on my part after chasing spark on a few bikes. When you replace the seals pull the motor. Due to the motor has been in for I assume years, you may have corrosion between the motor and the mounts. Bad ground....not good spark. Sand the mounts and reinstall.

Awesome Scott, I learn something every single time I log in. This is one I’ve never heard. I did get spark after changing the coil, points and condenser but it evaporated after I started the first time. There is visible oil now in the dry side of the crank which spun all over the stator assembly. I’m guessing it coated the points as well But I’ll take your advice when I do the seals. Much appreciated

adguy2112 it is real common with new people restoring bikes that powder coat the frame, install the motor, and don't have spark due to no ground because of the powder barrier. An older bike with the aluminum case and steel mounts can get deposits from washing and riding in the dirt. You may have a ground but not a good enough one once the motor starts and vibrates.

Back from vacation and had crank seals waiting for me. Did the dry side already and found the points wire pulled off the condenser. Put it back together and nice consistent blue spark. Pulled off the clutch cover and leaned the right side seal was completely out. Tge clutch basket is in the way but not sure if I need a special tool to hold the center. I definitely want to take special care to not break the aluminum. Any special tricks anyone has?

Great Tip RT, I like that spanner holder. Wish I had a spare set of steels and fibers lying around. Just threw out the last set I replaced not realizing they could have another purpose. Toyed with the idea of Just pushing this seal back in but It’s nearly all the way apart so we’ll do it right this time. Appreciate the advice.

So saw someone made a spanner clutch removal tool out of plywood on YouTube. Gave it a try and bingo! Worked like a charm. All put back together. Went through the carb again as well and it started on second kick but not running great. When going through the carb I noticed the right hole of the three holes at the bottom  on the carb air inlet seems clogged and there was some tough gunk coming out. I was concerned the passage may supposed to be blocked by some sort of plastic substance. I don’t think I got it cleared out. Can anyone confirm what that passage does?
