DEET can probably give you a good idea of the date if you give him the VIN.  He also makes fantastic replacement decals if you want to replace yours.

(DT prefix would mean 250 frame.)

Vin is RT1-127928.  Deet - Any help here?  I'm sorry but I don't currently need any decals.  Just had the bike painted and the painter hand painted the stripes on the tank instead of using decals, but I will keep you in mind for sure.

I was talking about the VIN sticker you said was unreadable.

Hey Mark,  I am confused.  The sticker is unreadable so I am not sure how he could offer up any help since it can't be read. Am I missing something here?

DEET has made many, many, many, many replacement VIN decals for members who are repainting frames or just want it to look new.  He very carefully replicates the font and the replacement decal will look original.

The serial numbers are pretty much sequential and not everyone has an unreadable date. So if yours is wiped off he has made so many that he can probably figure out what month and year yours was manufactured with very good accuracy.

He does require you send him a photograph of your original VIN stamped in frame and a picture of what's left of the VIN decal is also a good idea.

Ahhhhh got it... I was thinking he could tell me a bit more about my bike, not necessarily replace the sticker.  I will keep this in mind.  Thank you.

Go back and read what I said.  I don't know if DEET can or will help you but it can't hurt to ask.  The sticker was optional...  but if it is a 1972 build a sticker would be a heck of a lot cheaper than installing turn signals.

Regarding indicators, check out my post #9 on the link below.

Just to correct one of my points on that post, it looks like there are three different stalk lengths - just under 1", just over 1" and 2" (all measured at the shorter part of the stalk, nearest the lens).

Original front indicators seem to be daft money. However, I am attaching a link to a seller in Finland who is selling what like new originals at sensible prices - you will need to source the clamps, though.

Thanks for the info and insight, Gr8.  Really appreciate it. I'll check them out. I would have no idea where to source the front mounting clamps for the handlebars.

Just curious, has the longer shock caused any handling problems/issues?
