One more comment on the autolube... the bleed screw is there to get the air out of the system. So if you let the tank go dry you will need to let the oil continue to drain out of the bleed screw on the pump until all the air is out.

If your tank just has rust, and not thick black gunk from leftover gasoline, Evaporust does wonders to remove the rust. You can pour just one gallon in, let it set several hours, then rotate the tank, let it set again, then 2 more rotations until it's all been treated. Also save the Evaporust, because it can be reused. If the tank isn't leaking, no need to line it IMO.

If it has thick black gunk in the bottom, what worked for me was spraying in Berryman's B12, letting it soak, then using a power washer through the fill hole to blast it out. BTW, also best to get new tires if those are the originals. Good luck, and have fun!

Again, I appreciate all the responses. This is great and more than I expected.

Regarding the battery, the manual says the model # is 12N7-3B. I'm getting a few hits on Google, but I don't know what is legit vs junk. I believe I also have to purchase the acid separately. I don't suppose the existing battery can be 'refurbished' by putting new acid in it? If not, any suggestions on where to find a replacement?

You can get battery acid at O’Reilly’s, is what I did. Used a large syringe ,to add it. If you were close (Texas panhandle) you could have the balance of mine. Their smallest size would about 4 of those batteries. Inexpensive tho, approximately $9.

Yuasa is generally a good brand...  and if you buy locally at a motorcycle shop... or many of those neighborhood battery stores that have popped up have or can get the battery you need...  and a motorcycle shop should put the acid in for you.

Motobatt is a brand that is a "gel cell" and another option...  comes ready to go.  More expensive though...  Amazon probably has it.

When I got a new 6 volt Yuasa battery from Amazon for my '71 CT-1, I took it to nearby Ducati dealer and asked if they could put some acid in it, rather than buy a container of it. I intended to pay them, but they did it for free. If that battery has been sitting for 20 years, it's probably toast.

From what I've read, keeping the tank from flash rusting after cleaning it, is important. If we use Evaporust or some other method to remove the rust (Muriatic Acid seems popular), what's a good method to eliminate the flash freeze and any future rust?  I've read adding acetone or alcohol can help and then to follow up with a sealer like Red-Kot.

I've read that some folks do a rinse round with a little two stroke oil - just enough to coat the inside surface.
