I’d say it’s running fine… I saw that big bird… up here we call them shy-pokes…. Watch out.. when they let loose… they’ll cover a fishing boat!

Nice job. What I said about advanced was because as careful as I've ever been with a meter the points open before I can detect even the slightest movement...  sounds like you tried harder than I did.  I just don't want someone to "eyeball" and then meltdown piston or break an ankle on a 360.  When I have to use the eyeball method out on the trail I shoot for visible opening slightly after the mark.

I was hoping someone would jump in and answer on test light.  Simply disconnect black stator at harness.  One test light lead to black stator wire.  Other to battery +.  (You can use bike battery if charged.)  Points closed, light will be full bright.  Points open, bulb will dim slightly.  A higher wattage bulb dims more dramatically..  soldering up a tester using an old brake light or turn signal bulb works pretty good.

Wouldn’t there be a way to use the horn on one of these to create an on board buzz box? A jumper cable of sorts like McGuyver would use….

I get what you're saying Mark, and without that big magnifying glass, and focusing bright light into the window, I'd never be able to even get close. Not something I could ever do on the trail. Thanks for the tip on using an old turn signal or brake light to make a test light. I have some and a soldering iron, and will try it.

I just made a test light using a festoon bulb. It's a 12 volt bulb for automotive use, but it works perfectly with the 6 volt battery. At first I didn't think it was working, because the light just stayed lit and did not dim, then I realized you have to turn the key on. Once I did that, I found out that I have it set dead on!

Edit: I was mistaken, that is an incandescent bulb. An LED may not even work because most of them are not dimmable.

That's a cool idea. Hope it doesn't fire while you're moving it by hand, but unlikely. Good to see a video of it working.

RT325, I had the black wire to the coil disconnected, and one end of the test wire pushed into the female connector going to the stator. I put an alligator clip on the other end, and pushed back the red battery wire insulation sleeve, and clamped onto that. No danger of it firing :0)

Ok thanks. I thought i read nothing worked untill you turned the key on so thought must've been hooked to the coil up top but earthed with key off. I'm sometimes electricaly challenged untill i see smoke--then i know where the problem is haha.
