So I got this beast from a friend of my hubby’s who inherited it from his father in law when he passed. It had been garaged for nearly 30 years, and had the cylinder head off but was all there. ($200) has just under 1600 miles and with some cleaning is coming together nicely. Got it running two days ago. Had some carb issues and the throttle adjusted right, but not sure if it’s getting enough oil…? Is there a way to test the oil pump? Seems to rev wildly high when you close the choke..?

That's a nice bike! you can test the oil pump operation by actuating the oil pump cable pulley at a idle and see if the smoke increases. make sure the roll pin and the mark on the cable pulley are aligned when the throttle is closed, twist the throttle and make sure the marks align when again with the throttle closed
I don't know what the specs are but you can check the pump stroke by using a feeler gauge as specified in the shop manual. use the white starter wheel and turn it until the end of the cable pulley and the large washer on the pump shaft get to the widest gap then measure the gap there and compare it to the pump stroke specs in the shop manual.
the oil injection on these bikes is very reliable and once properly set up should give no trouble.
on the engine revving up while the choke is on is normal but it should not be screaming to redline. the highest I had seen the revs go to 3000 rpm or so. the choke passage has nothing to control the idle speed and it adds additional fuel for a cold start.
