Hi, just discovered this forum after picking up a DT360A project bike. Also have a TY250A, IT250H, 3 x TT500C’s
I had a DT250A new when I was 14, but sold it after getting a near new TT500. Anyway saw the 360 for sale at a reasonable price and nostalgia kicked in. As mentioned by another Aussie in the intro’s, parts here have dried up, there’s still a few basket cases on marketplace, but they’re always a 1,000 klm’s away. These bike were once plentiful and cheap in Aus’ but most got ridden into the ground, or rusted away in a paddock. Plenty of stuff on US eBay at high prices with ridiculous postage costs. Considering our dollar buys 65US cents it’s not really viable.
Anyway my 360 is in a 250 frame, built up from bits and pieces put together with random nuts and bolts so my plan is to turn it into a period enduro bike that I can ride without doing anything irreversible to it. In the meantime will slowly hunt for missing pieces.

As you say, USPS are taking the pi** with their charges.
Some parts do turn up in the UK, especially if they were also used on different models - CMSNL and Partzilla are good research sites for this. CMSNL even have some NOS parts.

I’m not so sure it’s just USPS, Royal mail used to be cheap as chips. I’d get my Rotax parts from the UK rather than the USA, due to the much cheaper shipping. I think a lot of the issues are the online shipping calculators, especially the eBay one.

Welcome from Sydney, Aus.
I totally understand the shipping costs these days ... I'm fortunate that my son travels to SoCal for the super cross season so I have items delivered to his residence there and brought back in luggage for no charge :-)
What year model is your bike / engine?

The bikes a 1974 model.
Years ago we would take shopping trips to the US. You could still get did surface mail back then, so we’d pack up boxes with bike parts on our travels and send them home. We’d also travel with light luggage and empty bags that we packed to the max for the flight back. Had some fun times at LAX check in with 3 blokes with 9 bags having to hurriedly swap parts around to get them all within weight.

I have rebuilt a 1974 DT360a from the ground up using NOS parts from all over the globe, cost around $17,000 all up. Not worth anything like that, but there would be very few anywhere as good, just about every part is new.
I don’t know how to attach a photo
Send me your email address through a pm and I’ll send you some photos
