HI all, Clearly im new here but ive been lurking for some time now.

Ive been chatting with a very reputable Pipe builder in WI about making a Custom expantion chamber that would mate up to the stock muffler on my 75 dt400b.

I trying to guage if theres any interest in a group buy of 5 or more pipes. i would provide the bike for testing and fund the R&D.

im open for input on how the pipes should be tuned ect.

If theres no interest thats ok ill just have one made for me.

cheers!

I interested as long as the power stays as linear as the stock pipe but stronger thru the RPM range. That stock muffler is going to be a problem if you want to keep it quiet

Welcome to the zoo, Oilcan.

Have you checked out the sleeper pipes built by our members Meis and DVM? I don't have one, but from what I read here, they really pep up our old Enduros.

Oilcan,

As owner of Sleeper Pipe #29, I can FULLY recommend the pipes by Dave Meis and DVM. On my RT-3 daily rider (BARELY street legal, and much modified), JUST the addition of the pipe (it used to wear a Bassani chamber/silencer) made it too much for the clutch to handle, and required me to add a set of Barnett "racing" plates and springs.

Yee-hah!

Hi all

Pricing would be between 250 and 350 per pipe per,

Power would be similar ranges to stock without the drop on top. (If that makes any sense!)

I have heard of the sleeper pipes, and here's my usually flawed logic on that..
1 it's a freakin great idea and obviously a great product ( which I may end up getting anyway)
buuuttt wouldn't a pipe that is not confined to the original shape of the stock pipe be more efficient and effective. And my goal is not to keep the exhaust looking stock( I kinda like the fat 2 stroke pipe look)

I am interested depending on the price. I have a Sleeper pipe on the Super DT400 project bike and the only problem is the top end power but everywhere else has very good power. it is just from 6500 to 8000 rpm it is a little weak compared to a DT400 Hooker pipe I had on it.

I plan to get a sleeper pipe mod done for the RT1B and 1978 DT175 and I know for sure it will improve those greatly.

With Bigdog's sleeper pipe we did the best we could to make the pipe work at 6500 to 8000 rpm....unfortunately in order to make the DT400 pipe work well at those high rpm's it would require cutting the pipe up and modifying it extensively.

yes, we both knew it was a crap shoot going in pretty much going in. the bottom end and lower midrange was improved quite a bit over both the stock DT400 and the Hooker pipe.

with the Hooker pipe the top end came in such a potent rush but was weaker at low rpm. :)

Yah I imagine you can only do so much within the constraints of the stock pipes outer shell.

I believe the pipe that aaen performance would make for us would be steel with a black finish to keep costs down. These guys make a ton of custom exhausts, up I. This neck of the woods a lot of times its for snowmobiles and motocross bikes but they have done work with vintage bikes too.

I'm going to see if they work with materials like stainless and titanium as well.

I have one of their exhausts on a very much not stock 94 Polaris scrambler 400 atv and it really sings with it. I do believe within the scrambler community their exhaust was regarded as the best or one of them.
