Hi,
I’m probably not going to be much help here…….,
My imported DT400B came with Californian ‘certificate of title’ (Which doesn’t state the model type).
I didn’t get a dating letter from Yamaha (I didn’t know I needed one? Maybe I didn’t need one as I had the certificate of title?).
When I filled out the V55/5 form (application for first vehicle tax) I filled out the model as ‘DT400B’
My V5C registration document doesn’t state the model type.
I’m insured with Hagerty. I’ve just checked the insurance docs and it states the model as ‘DT400’.
My registration is XHJ289N…

Hi,
Just received a reply from Yamaha Motors

Good Afternoon

Thank you for contacting our contact centre recently in regards to your insurance issue. I apologise that you are experiencing difficulties insuring your machine. Upon investigation I can confirm that the dating letter we provided does identify your vehicle as a DT400. I can also confirm that the DT400 model was officially imported into the UK by Yamaha and we would have provided model information to the DVLA and insurance providers at the time.

Please can we advise that you request your V5C from the DVLA in order to verify if they have correctly categories your vehicle in the first instance. Unfortunately, although we are able to provide a dating letter we are unable to provide further assistance in regards to registering/insuring your vehicle.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and I apologise that on this occasion we are not able to be of more assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if there is anything else we can assist you with in the future.

I have sent a letter to the DVLA with the code ( 501 ) provided by DEET, but if anyone in the UK has a DT400 I'd be grateful to see what's typed in where it states model Code

Thanks Keith

It might be as simple as the DVLA don't list a DT400 since the models are DT400B etc. or in your case DT400C.
I think the VIN "501" will only confuse them more since this is NOT the model name.
From what you've said it sounds like the bike is registered on the DVLA system as an RD400.
I've struggled with the DVLA before when they kept misreading the Title document on my CT3.
They sorted it in the end after a couple of letters from me.
Hope you get it sorted.
Pete

.
Below are two numbers I found in an old Yamaha model code book.
.

Try the model code 513 . . . (My source has it listed as being a European DT400 model code number)
.

Also . . .  the model code 574 may show up in their system, but I can't confirm that they were ever sent to the UK

Good Luck

I have just checked six motorcycle V5s that I have and none of them give the model number, however when someone registers an imported vehicle using the V55/5 form that information is given by the person filling in the form.
Since that information has been given it's fair to assume DVLA has it entered on their database.
My feeling is that they have somehow entered your bike as an RD400 and not a DT400C and that information is now linked to your registration.
I'm sure with a carefully written letter to the DVLA you'll get it sorted.
