Model code woes :-( DT400 was created by 750kr1

Hi Everyone,
Im hoping one of you guys can help, about 3 years ago I bought my imported Colorado registered DT400 and rebuilt it, when I came to insure it I just contacted Carole Nash and added it to my policy, at the time the young girl was having difficulties as on their system, my reg number ( issued from the DVLA ) after I sent the Yamaha dating letter etc was coming up as an RD400, anyway CN managed to manually input the model and all was well, this year I decided to try to get more competitive quote but on every other insurance website my reg number comes up as a 1976 RD400, I have contacted DVLA who have responded saying DT400 was a limited edition and that Yamaha have never issued them with a Model code, do any of you know a code if it exists and how have you gone on with insurance.  I have emailed Yamaha about 2 months ago, but no reply.

Thanks for any help it will be much appreciated

That's a new one on me and, to be honest, sounds like a load of old bollox! However, my opinion doesn't help you!

Have you asked whoever did the dating letter for you if they have come across this before?

Hi,
The dating letter was from Yamaha Motors uk, I've emailed them twice but as yet no reply, it does sound like BS but I have rung the DVLA and written sending the dating letter etc, they just keep telling me the same thing. Im not the only person in the UK with a DT400, but Ive spoken to 4 other major insurance companies and they all say same thing, DVLA must issue bike with a model code ( head against brick wall time )

How about posting a photo of the VIN number that is stamped into the steering head of the frame?

I have my bikes insured through Hagerty and they've been fine.
Cost me £17 to add my AT1-C to my policy with four months to go and no admin charge.
My RT1 was £86 for the year.

Is it cheaper to insure an RD400?

So the VIN number confirms that it is a US 1976 DT400.

The model code is 501

(By the way.....If you need a replacement reflective VIN sticker, let me know as I reproduce them.)
