DT 125 fresh rebuild only backfires was created by Anthony44
Hey guys I'm trying to get this new build to start. I put an externally threaded crank on it and got a 130mm kit from VAPE. I timed it 0.071 inches from TDC or 1.8mm with a dial gauge. I got brand new NGK B8ES plugs. It starts for 1 second then stalls and only backfires when I kick it.
Filled with fresh 93 octane mixed 4 oz per gallon. I hooked up my cr250 tank to it(not shown in pics) as I'm cleaning the rust out of the stock tank. What am I doing wrong? The reed pedals are the original metal ones but showed no gap at all and I cleaned the entire carb a few months ago including the jets and just put fuel through it for the first time. Should I check the carb again? Maybe something clogged it somehow? The plug is dry so looks like the fuel isn't getting to it

Are you sure you have timing set to have marks aligned before top dead center?
Tightened flywheel good and tight and then rechecked timing?

I have an update, I opened up the carb and I could barely see through the pilot jet. Plus there was tiny bits of specs in the float bowl and small debris. I made it super clean 2 months ago and sealed it up but I guess from sitting, some of that white powdery stuff formed from oxidizing and clogged it. We will see how it is tomorrow. I guarantee it's carburetor because the plug was bone dry.

Check the starter jet in the bottom of the float bowl isn't blocked , while you're in there .

First & only thought at the moment is, it ran then the flywheel slipped if it has no key, or broke the key & then slipped--same result.

It's a keyless flywheel but the fit is super tight so I can't see it moving. I'm about to put the carb back together and try to fire it up

I cleaned the whole carb again and it's doing the same thing. Main jet, needle jet, pilot jet, every hole is clean. Is the timing spec the same with this electronic ignition? 0.071in Btdc? I'm gonna check the fly wheel position later but I know the line on the flywheel lines up with the line on the stator plate perfectly when I turned back till it reached 0.071 when I did it. Maybe somehow it moved? I'm gonna do a recheck

Ok I turned it clockwise until it reached TDC then zero it out at TDC. Then I turn anti clockwise until it reaches 0.071in and the line on the rotor and stator plate line up perfectly. Exactly how I had it in the first place
