DT400b oil tank window removal was created by GaryDean
Hi Guys
I decided to repaint my oil tank but I did not want to remove the window for fear of constant oil contamination. So I painted the tank today and left the window in, I have a replacement window to fit, but dont want to gun ho it and ruin the paint job, so can you push these into the tank for removal or drill them and pull them?
thoughts appreciated from anyone that has removed 1

hi thanks for that, but it does not cover getting the thing out, only putting a new one in. I suspect I need to warm up and try pushing it in without denting the tank?

I've not done it myself, but I've read many times that folks have drilled a small hole, inserted a self tapping screw and pulled it out.
If the thread that adguy attached doesn't mention this, don't use too much force when pushing in the new one, otherwise it will end up in the tank itself!

Not sure about you tank, but on the CT1 I push the original through then remove it from the filler hole.
Installing the replacement I use a plywood disc about 2 inches diameter and press that against the new window.
Using the disc will stop you pushing it in too far, which is what I did on my first attempt, lesson learnt

A little oil on the rubber will help too.
Good luck.

I drilled mine and pulled it with a large wood screw.
And then I found a surprise inside the oil tank.

thanks for the replies guys, I will go with the push first and fish out the tank through the filler, if this seems to not move I will go with the drill and pull, I think the latter may get the tank damaged when I drop it on the floor trying to pull it out LOL
then follow the disk trick when re installing

One of mine has one inside the tank. I left it in there. Don't want to risk any damage trying to get it out.
