75 DT 250 locking gas cap is not unlocking

The key is not turning that far at all. Thanks for the picture it really clears up my situation. I will need to continue working with wd40 and moving key. My keys might turn half of what you show. Thanks

With the tank upside down on the workbench, it may be a good idea to lubricate (wd40 or light oil) the underside of the locking cap (would have to take the petcock off) as the mechanism underneath could be rusty (see example in pic) - and you might put too much pressure on the key to shift it…

I finally got the cap off by just twisting the key to lock and unlock and soaked gas tank upside down with vinegar. Thanks for all the info!
