Dt400 twin shock front brake was created by Jammyyammy

Hi all - I’ve set up the front brake on my DT400 twin shock so that the brake shoes (new ones) just about don’t make contact with the hub when the lever isn’t pulled.
However, there seems to be a lot of lever movement before the brake has much effect - the lever nearly hitting the handlebar grip.
I was thinking about replacing the brake pivot actuating arm with a slightly shorter one to decrease the lever travel.
Anyone else tried that successfully and if so, what model of bike did the lever come from?

on the brake backing plate wrap some shim stock around the pin that the brake shoes mount on.  Not the cam side obviously. What happens is even though you have the right shoes they are so far from the drum on the stationary side that when the cam side contacts the drum the stationary side pulls away from the pin which in turn creates freeplay at the handle

It could be Jammy that because they are new brake shoes just a high point on one of them is touching the hub. My crude method is to hold the brake on and ride a little bit to wear them in

Yes - I really need to wear them in. That involves getting the engine back in!  I’m probably getting ahead of myself.
interesting about the brake pivot mod. I’ll bear that in mind if the brake is not very good.
Thanks.

Curious if you are using Yamaha shoes?  I had a similar problem on a 175 with new EBC shoes.  They were manufactured undersize.
