Hey guys, I'm finally making some positive progress on my cursed CT2, the previous owner really did a number on the internals of this bike and did some not so smart things externally as well. Anyway, I'm trying to get the oil pump working, he didn't have the cable connected to it so it wasn't being used to feed oil and also just left it in the motor so I'm hoping it's not destroyed. While trying to adjust the pump, or make sure it's in adjustment, I was able to get a .15mm feeler gauge between the adjusting pulley and adjusting plate as the book said but then later in the instructions it said a .20mm should fit, which it does but just barely. Also, I noticed the roll pin was not lined up with the little "pyramid" on the adjusting pulley (?) so I tried to adjust the cable to line it up but ran out of adjustment on the new KDI cable (not faulting Dave), so I'm wondering it I don't need to get the cable shortened a bit.
I hope all that made sense, it did to me but then being inside my head is a very dangerous place to be

Anywhere between .15mm and .20mm is fine. You don't want to go past .20 if possible. I shoot for .17 on my bikes. Be sure to have your cable adjustments proper at the throttle grip 1st and carburetor top 2nd before adjusting the oil pump cable. Also your looking for alignment with slack taken up on the throttle but carb slide not raising yet in the carb. Once you feel resistance in the throttle grip movement (slide not raising) adjust your oil pump cable until you get your proper line up on your pump pully and roll pin. If not possible then get rid of the aftermarket cable and find a NOS Yamaha cable.
Also be sure all 3 throttle parts of your cables are correct for your bike. I have seen mis match cable including the RT1 i just finished. 2 of the 3 cables were wrong!

Thanks Skydancer, I had wondered if I needed to adjust the cables at the grip and carb first, now I know. The cable kit I bought from KDI, Dave is really good at putting out quality parts. The previous owner only had a throttle cable going to the carb and that was it. He really did some shade tree mechanicing on this poor bike and did a number on some of the internals that cost me a bunch to figure out and fix. Thanks again!

No problem, glad to help.
Yes i deal with Dave and use KDI stuff when NOS is not available. Most the time it works fine. Once in a while i will have issue's but i am picky!! You should be good as long as he shipped the correct cables.
As for adjustments, I like to see at least 1mm free play at the grip and 1mm at top of carb before doing oil pump cable set up. Be sure the slide does not raise in carb but cable slack is all taken up when you do your pump alignment.
I am going thru the same thing with the 4 bikes i just bought. Crazy what people do to these bikes!

So, one more question. Do you think the pump is ok since it didn't have any oil running through it? I just put a new top end on it and don't want to seize it from lack of oil.

If the oil lines from the oil tank were still connected , and had oil in in them , despite the cable being disconnected ,
Idle quantity of oil would still have been pumped through to the motor . More importantly , keeping the pump internals lubed .
If the oil tank has been run dry , then potentially the pump could be damaged .
Disconnecting the output oil line at the cylinder banjo , you can check pump output flow .
From memory with 200 plunger strokes with pump cable fully opened , you should get 5-6 cc of oil .
If you do the test with the motor running , remove the banjo and plug the cylinder hole with a screw ,
and obviously run the bike on premix , which you already must be doing .
In hindsight , It may be 200 turns of the white priming gear to get that output figure .
Someone else will clarify that I'm sure .

Hard to say without seeing it. Easy to test. Once you bleed the pump with the little screw on the pump, take the oil feed bolt line off at the cylinder. Hold the throttle wide open and keep turning the white wheel until you see oil come up and out there. It may take a while but you should see a good stream of oil coming out there with throttle held wide open.
If you do get oil there your pretty safe knowing it's pumping oil. If your really concern mix a little oil into your gas. 80/1 will work until you are sure it's pumping and not leaking.

Thanks guys, it is pumping oil, I just need to check to see if it's pumping the correct amount but yeah it was run dry, for how long I have no idea.
