Life after meltdown was created by msavitt
I decided to chronicle the rebirth of my ,74 DT 360 that unfortunately melted down on Christmas Eve and to build it back in the most reliable manner with the help of this sites endurologists.
Engine completely disassembled and notwithstanding cylinder that will clean up with 1O/S looks pretty darn good inside.
I am going to replace crank bearings which are in the freezer.
Question 1. What’s the best temperature to heat case halves in oven, knowing that bearings are in freezer at -3F?
Question 2. What is optimal cylinder/piston clearance? Can I assume that piston measurement taken near bottom of skirt perpendicular to wrist pin?
Thanks

Glad you're making lemonade out of lemons. I bring the cases up to about 250F. The correct piston/cylinder clearance is in the service manual...but I don't have a DT360A yet. Maybe manual on this site? I know that the Yamaha clearance is a little tighter than rule-of-thumb clearance that general machine shop engine builders use.

Yes she did. She just didn't say anything about it.

Ha. That's what I was thinking too. She was probably doing something devious herself so she let it slide.

That’s funny and so true. I am very psyched by my rebuild. Now I am designing pullers to pull the crank into cases, great relaxation!!!

You can get a crank installer for under 100 bucks. I have one from RMATV I got years ago and have used countless times. Not as much fun as doing it yourself but it sure is nice when the motor goes together smooth as butter.

DEET makes a set that comes with all the adapters for all the Enduros... hard to find that anyplace.

If you haven't put the cases together, I discovered a trick installing the kick start spring. The spring is inside the case and may fall out of place when putting the cases together, so in the pic I installed a zip tie to hold in place.
Thanks Mark
