Front wheel Identification was created by tlh0824
Hello
My son and I have been slowly working on a 1975 DT 250 unfortunately the bike that was a real Frankenstein. We are not building a 100 pt restoration but just want the proper parts. We removed the front end this weekend the triple clamp and forks are obviously don't belong but the front wheel almost looks like a 75 76 dt 250 wheel. How can I tell for sure?
thank you
Tom

I can help a little. Stock 1975 DT250B front rim will be chrome plated steel. 21" diameter. Conical brake hub. Hub will also have plain finish, not black. Your brake plate looks correct, speedo attachment, finish, steel brake " arm", All match my all stock 75 dt250b. Agree that hub on Ebay is for XT. Pictures of stock 76 DT and IT still show chrome steel front and rear wheels. Same seller is also listing a rear wheel for the same bike and it also has an aluminum rim. While he may have removed them from a DT, they are not stock. That does not mean that they will not work just fine for you. Price seems low, aks seller if they are " true".

Are there any numbers and/or letters stamped on the inside of the hub and/or brake plate (might have to clear away some grime to see them!)?

It looks like the hub has cast into it "1E600" which is for a 76 XT500 I think. Not sure if they came originally with an alloy wheel, but that's what it looks like in the Ebay listing.

Good spot and agreed!
Taking it on one stage further, CMSNL show the hub as being used on the 1977 and on DT250 and DT400 (mono shock models). Therefore the wheel isn't off a 1976 DT400 (twin shock), although if it came attached to a non titled frame with a year of manufacture of 76 stamped on it, then I can see how confusion might arise!
