Winter work '25/'26 DT2 was created by Brzn
Something I knew needed done since picking up the bike in the fall of 2021. The bike came out of New Jersey and the original owner rode it mostly in the sandy Pine Barrens of NJ. The bike had sand everywhere and I figured it had to be in the swingarm. Originally the pivot pin didn't have grease fittings, I added them and shot grease in several times each year hoping to free up the pin anywhere it might be stuck and push out any sand.
Disassembly was pretty straight forward

To my suprise the pin came out with not much trouble. The grease seemed to do the trick, grease was everywhere and any sand seemed to have been pushed out. There was a small amount of corrosion, but no pitting to the pin and the bushings were both in great shape.

I cleaned the rear brake stay and removed the old paint with paint stripper, then cleaned off any rust with my bench wire wheel. The paint I use is POR15 Gloss Black Top Coat. It's pretty hard when cured and holds up really well.

This needed attention. it was chipped and rusted. The bike must have been laid down at some point and battery acid spilled on it, there was a mark where I have to guess a strap had been attached for transport and the chain had caused damage too. The battery also acid damaged the upper chain guard, I took care of that when I first got the bike and it damaged the front top side of the rear fender. The damage to the fender is minimal and I'm leaving that alone since the rest of the fender is in great shape and the damage can't be easily seen.

I media blasted the swingarm with glass beads in a cabinet.

Then painted it with the same POR15 product

I put the bike back together yesterday

I'm pretty happy with the results.

Nice looking DT2. I really like the 72's plain simple look. I have owned every year DT250 from 68-75 but never a 72!
