1973 Yamaha LT3 Kickstarter Shaft was created by Logan4104

I was wondering if anyone knew if I could use a different Kickstarter shaft like an at or dt Kickstarter shaft on my 1973 Yamaha LT3. I don't really care about originality because the current shaft is snapped and stripped. Was just curious since the NOS part is super expensive. Thanks

AT & DT 125's are all bigger. We had AG100 farm bikes here which were just an LT2 engine mostly & the first ones broke the shaft if i remember right. In later years they increased the shaft size but the case would be changed too for the fatter shaft. No easy answer i can think off. Does it pushstart easy enough.
Looking at the link below the shaft looks bigger than i remembered---so i don't know. I do know on my LS3 similar motor has a skinny looking shaft that someone welded the lever on & that didn't last so she's a push start model like yours. But i can sit on the seat & paddle it as has a lower different road frame. Sorry--i'm useless.

Someone here was going to try swapping the whole AT/CT cover and starter to the LT.  I haven't seen an update yet.

Yeah it push starts pretty easy but it's really annoying in the woods when it dies

That was me and I’m kinda still in the same boat of needing a new kick shaft. I bought a parts bike and got a new shaft for the LT engine I rebuilt but then ended up using the parts bike engine with my old repaired kick shaft for transplanting into the YZ125. My repair is still holding up but I will probably revisit it when I put a new clutch in that engine. I think I’m going to take the roll pin I used out and add a second cross pin at 90 degrees to the first one but make the new pins out of stainless and press them in. Other than that my options were to buy a bottom end on eBay, there was a shaft listed on bike boneyard for 55 plus shipping which isn’t a bad option or try the AT shaft and clutch cover.

Does anyone have the dimension of the inner end of the LT kick shaft?  I think that was the main thing I was concerned about being different that would make a cover swap difficult.

I'll check the parts number, see if it's the same as my HT1B . I can measure mine tomorrow if it's a go on the pt #.

That would be awesome Dave. Need the OD of the inner end of the HT1/LT kick shaft.

14mm on my LT3 parts bike bike, if this is what you are looking for.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that attaches the handlebars to the seat
