I can't take credit for the shine and restoration on this one, but when i looked it over i knew it wouldn't be able to start in a million years as it sat. Of course previous owner didn't care. It was sitting in his living room.
I just needed to spend the time on it mechanically and get it up to par so it will start and run. Thankfully he did have the engine completely rebuilt and they did a great job for the most part. I just finished it up. Also corrected a few things on the bike like installing the correct Yamaha handlebars, fuel petcock, Nos 90 degree fuel line, battery box, connect all wiring, some grommets and clamps. Nothing was connected on the bike when i bought it.

Those are clearly exceptional bikes. I'm curious what you want for the CT1/RT1 combo. I guess you will post when you are ready

I changed my mind,
What good is a nice looking bike if you don't know if it even runs? I decided to add fluids to it. Primed the oil pump up to the cylinder feed banjo fitting. Installed a new battery. Added ethanol free gas. Kicked it over a few times and she came alive.
I personally never heard this bike run since i purchased it so this was a good start. Did three 15 minute heat cycles. Also sandblasted the gloss show paint off the pipe and repainted with Eastwood high heat paint in correct finish.
I guess it's been a long time since i rode a 360 because taking this bike down the street i realized this thing hauls ass. And i wasn't even getting on it hard as it's a brand new engine build! Stock jetting spot on. Engine idle great, pulls strong thru all the gears, Crisp clean running. rev's out nice. No running issue's what so ever.
Don't know if these early RT1 360's are that much faster then the later RT2 or RT3's but i sure don't remember my full on restored RT3 being this strong?? Of coarse it's been a while. This 70 RT1 doesn't hesitate one bit. Throttle response is very quick and power comes on now. Very impressed with this bike.
Once i get some miles on it i will re-adjust carb and turn idle down to 1200 to 1400 rpm. I like it a little high until piston & rings get seated.
Here is a short video of it running.

Wow, what an awesome RT1! The unmistakeable "throatiness" of the 360. Can't say I'm surprised that it fired right up.

I am very familiar with the Yamaha RT3's. My Dad bought a new RT3 when i was 13. Love riding it even back then. Then later on in life i did a major restoration on one to show Dad again somewhere around 2010. I have owned a few of them myself over the years. See picture of the RT3 I restored below. I worked at a Yamaha dealer then so it's definitely a NOS bike. The complete top end was new NOS parts. Cylinder, Head, Piston kit, Rod kit. STD bore and new. The dealer had all kinds of NOS old parts still in stock. I have hundreds of picture of the restoration project. Member 1971DT250 owns it now. Still looks good to this day and it's in good hands for sure. Great bikes and one of my favorites.

I pretty much thought this RT1 would start because i did go thru all the major area's needed to get it to started. Took the head off, inspected new bore and piston, took the side covers off, inspected both crank seals and crank. It has new NOS Yamaha crank seals in it. Adjusted the shifter linkage, inspected clutch, Ignition & flywheel. rebuilt the oil pump and went completely thru the carburetor. Had to connect all the wiring harness. It had a aftermarket coil on it. Thankfully he gave me a box of all the old parts when the engine was built so i installed the original coil back on. Engine has all new bearings, Rod, Rod bearings, new piston & rings, all new seals, a few new shifting forks. Old one look good. Some other odds and ins. He said he had a bunch of NOS parts laying around so he used what he had, needed or not.
Only thing i was concerned with is if the engine was built right. How was it going to sound? Was all the gears going to work? things like that since i didn't do the build. Seems who ever did the engine did a pretty good job. They just didn't finish it.
I put about 3 miles on it today. I plan on putting about 20 miles on it to see if anything needs attention.

Geez man, the old "good as new" truly applies to your bikes! Maybe better than new? Is that some kind of hang tag on your DT3?

Yes, it was a tag from Yamaha that shows instructions on how to use the decompression lever when starting the bike. I purchased the bike from the original owner. He bought it new. He kept everything from the dealership. Bill of sale, all paper work, owners manual, brochure, tool kit etc. That tag was with all the paper work he gave me.
When I asked where he got it. He said it was on the bike when he purchased it new. So i hung it back on the bike when i got done with the restoration.
Here is a closer picture of it. The other side shows the decompression lever and gives instruction how to use it to start the bike.
