1971 DT1-250 Front Wheel Tyre Size Question was created by Syd
Hello - Just a quick question about my front wheel tyre
The front wheel tyre on my 71 DT1 250 is 19 x 3.25. Would it be ok to fit a smaller size 19 x 2.75 tyre compared the original 3.25 wide tyre?

You can but it will look funny and may not handle as well. 3.25x19 original style tires are still avaliable from 2 or 3 tire makers. One of them is Heidenau K67 trial tire. I buy them from Revzilla SKU: 1096078

Thanks for your comments - the alternative option I have is to fit a larger size 19 x 3.5 tyre rather rather than a 19 x 3.25 size tyre which are hard to get in New Zealand. I'm looking at Shinko SR241 tyres which seem to have a good rating.

I have used Shinkos and they are a good tire as well. I have a friend that has the 3.50x19 Shinko's on many of his older restored Yamaha's. There show bikes and the tire does fit but not sure how it performs when riding. I have used the larger 3.50x18 Shinko front tire on the 71 Yamaha CT1 175 and it worked fine on that bike.

Might be something in a metric option--or not. I just copied this out of the link below.
90/90 MJ90 2.75/3.00
100/90 MM90 3.25/3.50
www.mad-ducati.com/Technical/TireInfo/TireChart.html
I've got what i think is an adventure tyre in metric & think it's a 90/90--19. Bought it for my DT1 front but haven't had to use bit yet but decided it looked undersize as soon as i got it home lol. So looking at the comparison list i guess 100/90 is close without eyeballing one.
Found a [very expensive option] on Trademe. Doesn't look like an original trail/trials tyre but listed as an enduro front tyre. www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/motorbikes/pa...8767401?bof=orTYQynD

The 3.5 look to chunky to me but I don’t mind spending a little extra for the Heidenau tires like SKYDANCER mentioned. I have those on all my bikes designed for the 3.25.

" Skydancer: I have used the larger 3.50x18 Shinko front tire on the 71 Yamaha CT1 175 and it worked fine on that bike. "
Did you put a larger tire on the back, or is it 3.50 as well? For my '71 CT-1 I went with 3.00x18 on front, and 3.50x18 on back, both Shinko 241s. Original front was 3.25.
