My comparison below. Pretty happy with my repop emblems. A little lighter red on the front but man not that noticeable since I don’t plan to show my bike. I found a red spray paint called Gloss Red Pepper that matched the backs of the originals and will probably spray the backs of the repops to really dial them in.

Steve,
I did see your comparison on Facebook on the 68 yamaha dt-1 group forum. I also bought the Gloss Red Pepper paint in case i wanted to paint the backs of the Repo's.
I wasn't going to do it, but I also decided to have the gas tank repainted. This also means the headlight bucket is going to get painted so they match. I have time since i am waiting on the handlebars anyways. I really didn't want to do this but after cleaning and buffing out the gas tank the 55 year old paint didn't look good. It is what it is i guess. Still going to be a rider bike. NOS tank emblems and all.

Beautiful day today for March 1st here in Michigan. Last week we had a major destructive ice storm. Some people still have no power! This coming Friday there talking about 4 to 10" of snow or more ice! Today it's 58 degree's, feels like 75 to me.Thought i would get one of the old Yamaha's out and go for a ride. Picked my favorite to ride, the 70 DT1 250.
Crazy to think after 50 + years i can still pull one of these old Yamaha's out of the garage kick it a few times and go for a ride like it was 1970.

Well, so much for nice riding weather. They weren't kidding.... We got every bit of 10" of snow in less then 8 hours. So much for early spring!! Compare to picture in last post just 2 days ago.

That was some of the heaviest snow in a long time. I mean heavy as in hard to shovel/plow. My Honda Foreman was struggling to clear it. Had to take small bites!

Back on track. Received my Handlebars back from the chrome shop 2 weeks early! Look nice. 1st time using them. In case anyone want to know $181.00 with shipping both ways. Little expensive but what isn't these days. I wanted the original bars on this bike. I recondition the horn/light switch and re sleeved it and the wire harness with new grey/silver harness metric sleeving.
Also got word from the paint shop my gas tank and headlight shell will be done the end of this week. About a week early! That's pretty much it. Re did the seat 3 times. May do it a 4th time. Still not excited with it. Had to use a Yamatopdog seat foam again. Other brands just don't work out on these 68-71 seats for me.
Won't be long now.

Thanks for tip on seat foam for the 68 to 71. I’m not happy with my 68 seat so I ordered a foam from Yamatopdog. I just haven’t switched it yet. I have an NOS seat cover and hoping that foam will do it.

Your lucky to have a NOS seat cover. With the yamatopdog foam it should fit like a glove and look factory stock. I'm currently using a KDI seat cover (2nd one on this seat) and fighting it all the way. Not KDI's fault but some are worse then others. It's just the nature of reproduction parts especially seat covers. Of coarse I'm a stickler when it comes to seats. I like them to look and feel like stock the best it can. I see so many great looking restored bikes with crappy loose, wrinkled or flat looking seats. It kills the whole bike. I know it's not easy to get them to look right using repo seat covers and foam. You can only do so much with them.
I wish i knew what brand repo seat cover my 70 DT1 has on it because it's a nice looking cover. Fits great. I like the material it's made out of. I installed a yamatopdog foam in that seat when i got the bike. It had a stock foam which was all loose, falling apart and worn out.

Earlier when i assembled this engine I mentioned i was scared to death of this plastic oil injection line from oil pump to cylinder on these 68 DT1's. Especially being 50 years old! I was concerned it would crack or break when installing it. I really wanted to keep it on the bike from a original stand point. So far It seams pretty tuff and flexable.
What is nice about this plastic line is when bleeding the pump and cylinder with oil. It's great to watch the oil feed thru the line and all the way to the cylinder without removing the line at the cylinder when turning the pump wheel. You can see the air bubbles too and make sure you get a solid stream of oil to the cylinder. Makes it easy peasy!
