The "problem" is the parts lists and manuals are all dated mid-1968 (or later).  Yamaha was probably ramping up 1969 production by then?

That tank bracket change probably happened sometime in 1967 with the bolt size change?   I can't imagine such an obscure, limited part would have ever been made aftermarket.

Hopefully Enduronut, another expert, or someone that has a very early DT1 will comment...  so many little details are undocumented.

So …. time to investigate the engine issues … first inspection of the exhaust port and head off didn’t look great tbh …

head bolts were reasonable easy to undo.

…. Actually went better than I thought as crank freed up and looks very clean and the inlet port is very clean and the back of the piston looks clean as well…

piston is stuck fast …. Penetrating fluid and some taps with a block of wood/mallet have seen minor movement but not sure the best course of action next
????
cheers

Don't know if your engine will be heavy enough, but this is what I did on my Suzi GT550!

Do you know what Evaporust is ? I unseized a 1969 HT 1 motor with it.
It was solid in the bore and crank. The barrel was already an inch in the air on the studs strangely enough. One day it was in there and both ends freed up.
You can buy it here in the UK for £25 per gallon and it's re cyclable for further use. I swear by it now and i found out about it on this site.

Have you tried using heat gun. Alternate with heating and cooling. Try hammer and piece of wood each time

A little progress….. after the soak in freeing agent didn’t work I bought a heat gun this morning and took Yamahahas advice …. worked a treat …

the top of the piston is badly corroded so I can’t tell what size it is ….. I have 0.25 and 0.5 so will have the barrel vapour blasted and rebored to suit …..

cheers

Does anyone know anything about the numbers stamped on the bottom of the engine cases? Likely just factory production numbers for batches?

cheers
