CT-1 Clutch issues. was created by PDXtyist

As our CT project is coming along we have an issue perhaps with clutch. Bike has new top end, new points and seals. Carb is tuned.
As we ride bike, acceleration is at first ok then the bike looses power and revs a bit with little or no power to the rear wheel no matter the gear we are in. We have a really strong feeling it’s the clutch slipping and not a carb issue.
Before we go digging into the clutch we need to be sure it is in fact the clutch.
-we tried to adjust the clutch via the Lock Nut and Adjust Screw. Even though we tightened the lock nut, the adjusting screw still spins freely and never locks. Any pointers on this? Will this, if properly adjusted,
prevent clutch slipping? Maybe clutch is being partially engaged somehow.
-besides new fiber plates, what other items should we think of replacing in clutch pack area?
-anything else we may be overlooking?
Thanks.

Need a little more info please if possible, or a video. Clutch slip will have it revving up but not speeding up in a severe case. On the face of it--it sounds like the exhaust is blocked, which in a bad case will majorly restrict the power & the ability to rev.

Is that a picture of what you are adjusting? If so, it's the neutral switch.

Adjustment is under the "bump" on the outer ignition cover.

When you pull the LH side cover it's pretty obvious how it adjusts. The less the push rod is pushed in, the less it releases the clutch, aka the more engaged it is. If you do clutch plates, measure the springs with a caliper while you are at it. If original they may be compressed out of spec making it slip.

And make sure new disks are correct thickness. Later models used the same size but thinner... IIRC yours uses 4mm thick disks and later ones are 3mm thick.

Yep, reading with both eye open now it does sound more like clutch slip. Make sure the cable & operating mechanism are free to move so there's total release of the clutch as doesn't take much of a tight cable & moving bits to aid slipping.

Thank you fellows.
How does one adjust the Neutral Stopper?
And what oil do you recommend? We’ve had good luck with Motul on other bikes.

"Neutral stopper" is the large bolt at angle behind the neutral switch. There's a spring and ball bearing under bolt. Ball locks into dent in shift drum when in neutral. No real "adjustment"

Manuals in Tech Library will show how to adjust clutch and shift linkage... shift linkage doesn't routinely need to be adjusted, clutch does. Can't hurt to check shift linkage if you have cover off to work on clutch.
